Purpose of Role

 

  • This role involves the project and development responsibility for all McLaren Automotive tyre lines
  • The role involves targets definition, release management, test scheduling, organization and completion to achieve correct targets and tyre supply on all vehicle programs
  • The Tyre Engineer is responsible for managing the budget and the relationship with tyre supplier for all development costs related topics

 

Principal Accountabilities
  • Support the Tyre System Matter Expert and Tyre Attribute Engineers in defining component targets in line with Marketing and Vehicle Technology roadmaps (Vehicle Dynamics, NVH, Weight, Durability, Envelope etc.)
  • Tyres BOM definition and management in line with Function Group targets
  • Definition of Tyre profiles that satisfy both attribute and packaging targets
  • Indoor tyre testing definition and management (load cases, calculations/simulations etc.) in line with Dynamics, Durability and Certification deliverables
  • Reference for Tyre data management/storage and sharing both inside and outside the Business
  • Reference for Tyre model update (tir, FTire), managing the link between vehicle tests, indoor tests and CAE team
  • Management of Tyre certification requirements
  • Management of Tyre supply and storage in development and pre-production phase
  • Management of Tyre component release process
  • Support Tyre Attribute Engineers in tyre test planning and organization
  • Management of Tyre quality concerns resolution
  • Management of Tyre spec changes with focus on risk and cost involved
  • Control DFM and FMEA
  • Regular project status reporting both internally and with supplier
  • Regular travel to support testing activities and face to face meetings with the supplier will be required

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Good knowledge of vehicle dynamics
  • Good knowledge of chassis hardware systems (i.e. tyre, suspension, steering etc.)
  • Excellent knowledge of Systems design and development
  • Good Knowledge of component testing and validation
  • Competent user of Matlab, Simulink (ADAMS car advantageous)
  • Experience in component release process (SAP experience advantageous)
  • Experience with issue management and problem solving
  • Experience with high-end/niche vehicle (low volume) programs
  • Able to deliver in strict timing with an appetite for measured success
  • Previous experience on a similar role and/or with tyre suppliers is highly advantageous 
  • Data logging, Calibration, Objective maneuvers and subjective vehicle evaluation are advantageous
