What to Expect
Reporting directly to the MSO Bespoke Configuration Manager; the MSO Bespoke Vehicle Configuration Specialist’s main role is to steer the delivery of MSO bespoke vehicles through McLaren business systems turning Sales input into actionable data. They assimilate inputs from business wide departments and define strategies for the seamless delivery of MSO Products. Each coordinator also takes the lead on an upcoming vehicle programme and supports with MSO bespoke preparedness from launch
What You'll Do
  • Attend and support bespoke enquiry meetings (both New Vehicle and Aftersales) to discuss customer requests received to ensure sufficient detail is captured and allow the MSO Sales team to quote.
  • To be responsible for the release of MSO new vehicle orders to Sales Planning to enable them to be scheduled into the most appropriate production slot for the business, including managing mandatory requirements and phantom parts requests on the tracker
  • Liaise directly with sales, purchasing, logistics, engineering, workshop personnel and the production facility, to translate customer requirements into a detailed project specification
  • Populate service orders and/or tracker with the required operations and parts to the agreed service level agreements
  • Create, define thorough supplier technical drawings, release and maintain configurable parts in SAP
  • Set up and maintain supply route and planning data in SAP for bespoke parts
  • For New Vehicles, oversee the necessary part strategy activities which trigger changes to individual vehicle Bill of Materials (BoM) in accordance with the bespoke specifications, including base specifications and liaising with the Central Planning Department to ensure that the communication of MSO content is made in time to effect the change to the BoM (New Line Fit Tracker)
  • Populate appropriate support documentation to ensure a smooth build, including paint strategies, End of Line documents and Post Build Modification (PBM) strategies
  • Be able to confidently quality check service orders of other team members prior to release to minimize business impact at build phase and maintain RFT (Right First Time) log
  • To be responsible for pro-actively identifying and escalating risks to service order quality and throughput
  • Support with issue resolution and change management of orders, including containment activities and RCA (Root Cause Analysis) of mis-builds as appropriate
  • Support the MSO workshop team by ensuring ASM (After Sales Modification) and PBM specifications are clear and complete, including paint strategies and work packages
  • Daily administration tasks including: monitoring team systems (Team Inbox and Leankit), service order maintenance and SAP data entry as well as supporting internal requests
  • Support the creation and development of bespoke content for vehicle series projects, by becoming the expert on configurable parts for a nominated series or vehicle programme and the lead on that programme within the team. Ensure team preparedness for new programmes through technical drawing template creation, documentation creation for internal training and paint/build strategy creation.
  • Define work packages/part templates for standard operations to improve efficiency and reduce lead times in service order creation
  • Identify and drive implementation of continuous improvement activities
What You'll Bring
Essential:
  • Demonstratable prior experience in being proactive, with a willingness to learn
  • Demonstratable prior experience in attention to detail, ideally relating to data entry
  • Demonstratable prior experience in delivering a high level of service to customers (internal or external)
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings (assessed at Interview)
  • Interest in the technical elements of Automotive manufacturing

Desirable:
  • An understanding of automotive interior and exterior/body systems, specification and manufacturing process would be a distinct advantage.
  • Experience of harnessing Automation Software (e.g. Macros, Power Automate and/or AI) to build tools to improve processes
  • Suitable experience of using SAP
  • Suitable background in projects and/or project co-ordination
  • Suitable experience in a technical and/or administrative role in automotive or equivalent manufacturing environment
  • Suitable experience in bespoke luxury products
  • Qualification to degree level in Engineering (Automotive, Manufacturing) or a technical discipline or equivalent vocational experience and academic qualifications.

Personal Attributes:
  • The role demands an excellent attention to detail and an ability to detect anomalies and inconsistencies in parts lists and incoming communication and to filter these out and apply rules of logic to create accurate vehicle specifications.
  • Confidence and aptitude in communicating to colleagues at all levels of the business
  • Fully conversant with Microsoft Office and Excel.
