Purpose of Role

The Electrical Systems Technologist supports the Vehicle Electronics and Infotainment teams in the design and construction of a variety of electrical and electronics devices, test fixtures and proof of concepts.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Fabricate electronic circuits and fixtures according to project specifications.
  • Use analytical skills to troubleshoot and fix errors in embedded microcontroller projects.
  • Design and fabricate one-off electro-mechanical devices as needed.
  • Translate project briefs into working prototypes.
  • Use Eagle Cad or similar software to design basic schematics and PCB assemblies, and either hand build or commission external fabrication of prototypes.
  • Integrate prototype electronics into existing working vehicles.
  • Understand and utilize basic vehicle network technologies as needed.
  • Use the Microsoft Office suite of programs effectively.
  • Utilize open-source prototyping software platforms such as Raspberry Pi and Arduino to prototype and test designs.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Practical experience in the fabrication of electronic circuits and fixtures.
  • Analytical skills in fault finding errors in embedded microcontroller projects.
  • Skilled at fabricating electro-mechanical one-off devices in project boxes.
  • Ability to translate a loosely defined project brief into a working prototype.
  • Experienced in Eagle Cad or similar CAE programs to design basic schematics and PCB assemblies and either hand build or commission external fabrication of prototypes.
  • Confident to integrate prototype proof of concept electronics into an existing working vehicle.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle network technologies.
  • Skilled in the basic Microsoft Office suite of programmes.
  • Knowledge of open-source prototyping software platforms such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino and similar devices will be a significant advantage.
