Purpose of Role

As Technical Author, you will form part of a team providing vehicle repair instructions to McLaren’s global network of approved workshops as well owner information for McLaren vehicle owners.

This role plays a key part in helping us achieve our Aftersales strategy by ensuring we have clear and detailed information relating to best practice when working on McLaren Road cars and accurate operational and safety information for our customers.


Principal Accountabilities
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for the McLaren retailer network for the servicing and repair of high-performance vehicles
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for McLaren vehicle owners (Owners handbook)
  • Assist in the coordinated strip and rebuild of existing and future vehicles for technical documentation validation
  • Assist the Illustrators in the creation of graphics for all technical documentation
  • Continue to monitor Engineering changes and understand the impact to documentation, ensuring all documentation is kept up to date
  • Provide support for all Aftersales and Service Operations activities, under the direction of the Technical Documentation Manager
  • Liaise with other McLaren Automotive departments, McLaren engineering and development and suppliers to McLaren, as required

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Experience in a vehicle workshop environment and fully conversant with all aspects of high-performance vehicle repairs and servicing
  • Experience with technical authoring of owner information
  • Experience within technical authoring roles from other engineering disciplines considered
  • Understanding of Catia Composer, Keyshot, Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop an advantage but not essential
  • Conversant with vehicle mechanical and electrical systems and wiring diagrams
  • An understanding of Technical Documentation Manuals and Maintenance systems
  • Conversant with CAD (Catia V5) or similar
  • A suitable formal education via City & Guilds or equivalent, and an apprenticeship (extensive and suitable experience may be considered in lieu)
