To ensure McLaren Automotive continues its desire to be “the sportscar company”, we are looking for an SQA Principal Engineer to join our Supplier Quality Assurance team. 

Purpose of Role

Software Testing and Validation at McLaren Automotive is a key part in the development of our high-performing cars. Software Testing is performed in close collaboration with system engineers, in-house controls software developers, and vehicle development engineers, using agile methodologies.

The testing facility is located on Idiada proving ground, offering the ideal combination of static and dynamic test environments, with Labcars, HiL rigs, and development vehicles to be driven on the track.

The broad technical scope extends from traditional CAN EE Architecture to state-of-the-art Zonal EE Architecture with Ethernet backbone and AUTOSAR software methodology and toolchain, Hardware-in-the-Loop and Test Automation techniques applied to complex embedded systems, such as Hybrid Powertrain systems, Transmission and Chassis Control systems, HMI/UX, comfort and body systems, ADAS, vehicle connectivity systems.

Principal Accountabilities

With exposure to a variety of systems and platforms across programmes, you'll lead the team of engineers responsible for design and execution of tests on electronic systems, and whole-vehicle EE architecture, to support the delivery of the software functionalities on McLaren vehicle programmes through development to series production, focusing on reliability, robustness, and test automation.

Main accountabilities include:

  • Planning and execution of the validation test plan
  • Development of the HiL rigs and Labcars in accordance with programmes’ contents
  • Technical leadership of analysis and investigation of complex system issues
  • Management of testing suppliers
  • Management of testing resources and budget
  • Team management
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Excellent knowledge of Automotive network protocols, e.g. Ethernet, CAN, LIN, XCP, UDS.
  • Significant experience with verification and validation of electronic systems in line with ISO-26262, covering technical and planning experience
  • Working experience with agile software development
  • Electrical, software or automotive engineering degree 2:1, or above
  • Preferred ISTQB certification
