Purpose of the role:
In this capacity, your role and responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following:
Lead operational quality engineering activities for composite manufacturing projects at the Sheffield facility.
Manage and mentor Quality Technicians, ensuring effective task delegation, development, and performance.
Own operational quality for assigned areas, ensuring components meet defined specifications and standards.
Lead the resolution of internal QIs and external QCRs, ensuring timely containment and structured problem-solving.
Monitor and report on quality performance, including outputs from Quality Technicians.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams Including Manufacturing Engineering, Production and Central Engineering and Design functions to improve quality standards based on production data and test results.
Drive initiatives that optimise product flow through the facility while maintaining high quality standards.
Develop and maintain quality documentation to support both new and ongoing activities.
Lead validation frameworks and activities for new products and processes.
Define, track, and report quality metrics to the Leadership team, driving data-led improvements.
Facilitate and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using structured methodologies.
Champion the use of quality tools such as PFMEA, SPC, and MSA across the team and allocated areas.
Collaborate with Supplier Quality to resolve incoming material issues.
Support the development and implementation of advanced measurement techniques, equipment and processes for composite products.
Principal accountabilities:
Own all aspects of quality performance for assigned projects and operational areas.
Ensure timely containment and resolution of QIs and QCRs using defined structured approach.
Apply analytical thinking and sound judgement to resolve complex technical challenges.
Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships to foster a high-performance team culture.
Support audits and compliance activities aligned with automotive quality standards.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on data, feedback, and root cause analysis.
Balance production delivery targets with the consistent output of high-quality components.
Knowledge, skills & experience:
Proven experience in a senior or lead quality engineering role, ideally within automotive or composite manufacturing.
Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience supervising or mentoring others.
Expert knowledge of quality engineering tools and techniques (PFMEA, SPC, MSA, RCA, auditing).
Experience with composite production processes and materials is highly desirable.
Familiarity with automotive quality systems and standards (e.g., IATF 16949).
Experience with niche vehicle or low-volume manufacturing programmes is advantageous.
Proficiency in Minitab and other statistical analysis tools is desirable
Excellent communication, presentation, and IT skills.
