Purpose of Role

The successful candidate will have full ownership of OBD systems from specification to engineering sign-off, developing and implementing strategies to meet worldwide OBD legislation across all powertrain families.



Principal Accountabilities
  • Develop calibration techniques and methodologies to implement OBD functionality effectively
  • Define a strategy for catalyst aging to meet legal requirements in all markets
  • Develop data mining/analysis tools and methodologies to validate OBD and system performance
  • Lead fleet data collection and analysis and provide regular status reports
  • Lead fault finding and root cause analysis of software and hardware failures
  • Drive issue resolution with hardware and software suppliers
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Has experienced a full OBD programme from concept to production.
  • Able to define OBD deliverables based on the high-level programme specifications, understanding the legal requirements.
  • Able to work across multiple departments within McLaren to bring together solutions to meet legislation requirements.
  • Able to identify continuous improvement opportunities and to deliver solutions.
  • Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree 2:1 or above.
  • Excellent understanding of OBD legislation and approaches to meet legislation. 
  • Excellent knowledge of control and calibration of powertrain hardware.
  • Good ability to balance the needs to different attributes to achieve the best overall product possible. 
  • Software requirements capture and detailed software design into specifications.
  • Model-based control software development and verification would be beneficial.
  • Able to develop toolchains to improve the teams ability to process the large amount of data collected from the fleet.

  • Travelling to proving grounds in all seasons (winter/summer testing)
