Purpose of Role
As the Senior Engineer - CAE Body Structures you will be responsible for the definition, development, and validation of Body Structures Analysis of McLaren vehicles with focus on Composite Structures.

You will be leading FEA analysis supporting vehicle projects as well as overseeing all internal and external Body simulation work.

You will also be responsible for defining and managing the simulation and data analysis plan as well as having technical responsibility for delivering the Body Structures analysis across all programmes. 

Please note this is a hybrid position, you will be required to work on site a 2 days a week. From a location perspective we will consider applicants working from Sheffield.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Maintaining, analysing, correlating and reporting on the BiW models.
  • Leading the BiW CAE analysis and working with project engineers to assess risk on new projects and develop plans to manage this risk thought virtual and physical test activities. 
  • Supervising external CAE partners to ensure that all CAE analysis conforms to company procedures, industry best practice and global regulations. 
  • Responsibility for Body Structures analysis model build and the development of simulation methodology. 
  • Developing robust models to assist the design and development activities of the vehicle program. 
  • Determining the most efficient engineering techniques and deliver maximum value to program, through an optimised modelling approach.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in automotive product development or project leadership function.
    • Experienced in an OEM or Tier1 with a high level of Body Structures analysis technical knowledge.
    • Experience developing, correlating and analysing of full vehicle and system level models for use in studying durability and passive safety attributes. Good knowledge of Composite Structures processes with focus on PrePreg and RTM technologies.
    • Advanced knowledge of Hyperworks and/or Abaqus and LS-Dyna is required, Optistruct is beneficial.
    • Experience in testing measurements and data postprocessing would be beneficial.
    • Good knowledge of validation, verification and testing process. 
    • Good knowledge of component development durability and quality principles such as abuse, dentability and oil canning. 
    • Good knowledge of stress analysis of composite, metal and mixed material structures. 
    • Good knowledge of Stress experimental methodology. 
    • Strong communication of simulation results via comprehensive and intelligible simulation reports. 
    • Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree 2:1 or above is essential.
    • Experience of metallic and composite materials is required as the vehicle structure uses both. Knowledge of various vehicle systems is essential. 
    • Experience of correlating and developing composite material cards for improved predictability.
    • Experience of working with and translating composite process development simulation to product development (CPD-CAE).
