What to Expect
To provide “clean sheet” concept packaging and detailed design solutions compatible with Styling Studio and Vehicle Engineering requirements in accordance with the Project timing and Spec Book targets.
What You'll Do
  • Report to Design Engineering Leader during concept phase of projects.
  • In the latter stages of the project design phase work within the wider Product Development Design Engineering team taking guidance from and supporting other functional areas as required.
  • Produce component packaging and concept studies including compatibility with latest styling direction.
  • Chassis, Powertrain, interior, electrical, BIW and body systems design, packaging and detailing from prototype to production, including supporting all Mule car design and development activity.
  • Reconcile manufacturing and assembly feasibility with aerodynamics, styling and component or system specifications.
  • Stand-alone mechanical system design projects to fulfil specific future engineering or commercial requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce complexity, cost and weight.
  • Check the content of designs for release against the specification, the data integrity of CAD geometry and resolution of digital build concerns prior to sign-off.
  • Support activities for weight-down, cost-down, build concern resolution and process-improvement.
  • Communicate progress and critical issues to the Principal Design Engineers and Chief Engineer.
What You'll Bring
  • Education to Degree level preferred
  • Relevant Automotive experience of high-end or niche vehicles preferred. Other engineering disciplines will be considered if the candidate can demonstrate an appropriate level of expertise in similar component design.
  • Proficient in solid modelling and surfacing using a 3D CAD system – CATIA V5 preferred
  • Ability to support design decisions with appropriate hand calculations
  • Ability to create full detailed design drawings in accordance with BS 8888, including geometric tolerancing.
  • Great attention to detail and an attitude to produce ‘right first time’ quality work
  • Good understanding of mechanical design requirements for typical automotive applications e.g. fastening systems, sealing solutions, manufacturing techniques.
  • Understanding of DFMEA and risk assessment techniques in automotive environment
  • PC literate and at ease with MS Office products
  • Experience of composite component & body pressing design preferred
