Purpose of Role

To test, validate and calibrate all Electric Drive System/s components within McLaren vehicles. It is expected that the engineer will be able to support testing of both hardware and software aspects of the Electric Drive / Hybrid Systems.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Testing and resolving issues on Electric Drive systems in vehicle applications and/or on development rigs
  • Working with the Electric Drive Controls Department to ensure delivery of ISO 26262 requirements and platform software deliveries for all phases of the vehicle programmes.
  • Supporting Durability testing requirements at vehicles and rigs
  • Supporting calibration of Electric Drive components
  • Be the first point of contact for all Electric Drive development testing activities
  • Fully aware of HV Safety principles and deliver safety requirements through example
  • Preparation and presentation of material to support external and internal project status reviews
  • Provide support on Electric Drive technical risk management to ensure project delivery, optimised vehicle performance and delivery of electric drive system attributes

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A good level of technical knowledge & experience of electric/hybrid vehicles and relevant testing
  • Mechanical and Electrical integration of electric drive components in a rig and/or vehicle environments to aid functional and system development
  • Experience of creating quality rig systems for component / system validation purposes
  • Experience of executing DVPs, FMEA, DFMEA
  • Design / implementation experience of vehicle embedded systems, notably:
    • System requirements capture 
    • Communication protocols (CAN, LIN etc.)
    • Diagnostics implementation and validation
    • Software architecture
    • Vehicle data logging, calibration and data analysis using INCA, Vector CANAPE or similar.
  • Design / implementation of high or low voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Familar with software tools for, rig and/or in-vehicle testing, calibrating, diagnosing, logging and data analysing.
  • PC literate and at ease with MS Office products. 
Personal Attributes

  • Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic or Automotive Engineering Degree preferable
  • Good team skills, willingness to work cross-functionally with excellent communication skills.
  • Capable of working completely independently
  • 1-2 years automotive design and development experience
  • Good systems design and development knowledge preferable
  • Experience in problem solving is essential.
  • Some experience of high and niche vehicle (low volume) programmes
  • An ability to deliver under pressure with an appetite for measured success.
  • A passion for high performance Hybrid/Electric Drive engineering.
  • A positive, proactive attitude with a high level of self-motivation to deliver excellence.
  • Well organised and delivery focused – with demonstrable track record of on-time delivery.
