Purpose of Role

o   “Design breath-taking products that tell the visual story of their function”.

o   Create ‘clean sheet’ concept & production ready design solutions compatible with concurrent engineering exercises to the McLaren Design Process (MDP) & program timing.

o   Lead the exterior or interior delivering to the Design Strategy & business’ requirements.

Principal Accountabilities

 o   Lead an exterior or interior design project team to deliver the design vision/strategy.

o   Produce high impact content for senior presentations.

o   Run & set the agenda of weekly Design Review(s) and minute feedback/actions.

o   Input into resource and timing discussions G0-G4, as required.

o   Work within the wider CMD, CAS, Clay & Engineering teams; to present feasible design solutions to Function Group representatives and Senior Management for sign-off.

o   Reconcile design intent, quality & manufacturing feasibility with aerodynamics, engineering and commercial requirements.

o   Communicate progress and critical issues to the Principal Designer.

o   Attend program and engineering reviews on behalf of Design.

o   Attend surface reviews on behalf of Design.

o   Allocate secondary tasks to team members, such as preparing review content.

o   Offer input into the creation and update of design standards & process.

o   Input into Design Strategy.

o   Be a role model, live the values and communicate the design pillars to other departments.

 
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

o   Education to Degree level minimum.

o   Good verbal & written presentation skills.

o   Excellent 2D sketching & 3D skills/knowledge. (Photoshop, Clay, Alias is a plus).

o   Basic program timing skills.

o   PC literate. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

o   Experience on clay & digital properties for production/advanced design.

o   Ability to lead an exterior or interior from G0-G4.

o   Very good understanding of ergonomics, aerodynamic principles & legal requirements.
