  • Manage by leading the full CAS team both internal and external resources.
  • To manage and lead the team of Alias and ICEM designers to create and release production-feasible aesthetically-optimised surfaces to the highest quality of execution, on time to support component production release schedules.
  • Accountable for the quality, content, compatibility, and timing of surface releases.
  • Support the Design Team to “create breath-taking products that tell the visual story of their function”.
  • To Manage the team within both the MAL MDP processes and Advanced modelling to deliver surface releases in accordance to gateway deliverables.
  • Accountable for the quality, content, compatibility, and timing of surface releases.
  • Build and maintain strong cross departmental partnerships.

Principal Accountabilities

Strong People Management responsibilities with a strong technical background in Alias, ICEM and Project Management.

1.       Project Support

  • Submit resource plan for surfacing team at gateway G0
  • Input to high level planning and agree programme timing at gateway G0
  • Set roles of surfacing team at G0 (for example, which zones an individual works on)
  • Input into the SRF surface release schedule at G1.
  • Instigate and run the surface quality reviews from SR1.
  • Attend surface quality reviews from SR1.
  • Run a frequent surface timing meeting from SR1.
  • Structure the surface data files and create new surface numbers from SR2.
  • Attend the project timing meeting, project concept engineering reviews, project design reviews and project development meetings.
  • Present surfacing status at gateway reviews.
  • Agreed responsibilities of surfacing developments cross departmental.
  • Ensure seamless CAS data transition from “creation” to “delivery.”
  • Report into Head of Design Operations weekly updates to ensure clear delivery status and agreed targets are maintained.

2. Task Control

  • Chair Agile scrum meetings, setting the priority of Agile ‘Tasks’
  • Provide technical advice for individual surfacing concerns.
  • Help Alias / ICEM designers to collate all inputs.
  • Assist in resolving conflicts between task inputs, especially between Design and Engineering.
  • Raise Engineering Records for new surfaces and chase to status 50 (approved)

3. Team Management

  • Set targets and run appraisals.
  • Allocate roles and responsibilities to the team.
  • Plan, request and allocate headcount to programmes.
  • Raise recruitment requests and find Alias / ICEM perm and contract designers as required.
  • Identify training requirements and implement.
  • Own the programme budgets for surfacing resource and miscellaneous expenditure.
  • Ensure adequate level of hardware and software to allow the team to fulfil their role.
  • Be a strong role model, live the values and communicate the design pillars to other departments.
  • Ensure the team produce Surfaces according to McLaren digital surfacing guidelines, standards and release procedures.
  • Collaborate with Visualisation Manager in the Virtual/digital development within the CAS organisation.

4. Surfacing Methodology

  • Evolve the high-level surface timing plan including surface release schedule for all programmes.
  • Implement and oversee Agile methodology.
  • Write, release, and maintain MSLs for CAS methodology (MSL business process)
  • Write, release, and maintain MSLs for CAS standards (MSL standard)
  • Request changes in Gateway MDP deliverables as required.
  • Keep appraised of industry trends and ensure presence at key events if appropriate.
  • Align with Engineering and Physical modelling departments inputs and requests.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Excellent people management experience leading a large team.
  • Education to degree level minimum.
  • Relevant Automotive Design experience of 15+ years.
  • Product development process awareness 12+ years.
  • Degree qualified or industry experience in relevant environment.
  • Excellent program timing skills.
  • Proven experience of multiple exterior and interior programs.
  • High engineering knowledge
  • Deliver programs from G0-G4.
  • Microsoft Office.
  • Adobe preferred.
