  • Support the Design Team to “create breath-taking products that tell the visual story of their function”.
  • To develop CAS design with the design team in line with MAL MDP processes and deliver surface releases in accordance to gateway deliverables.
Principal Accountabilities

  • Create Pre-SR1 surfaces of selected themes for proportions approval to 'sketch' tolerances.
  • Create SR2 surfaces for aero mule and first CAD models to 'concept' tolerances with curves-on-surface.
  • Create SR3 surfaces for Design Director approval to 'pre-production' tolerances.
  • Create SR4 surfaces for clay validation to 'pre-production' tolerances incl. all feasibility.
  • Create SRF surfaces releases for production releases to 'production intent' tolerances.
  • Maintain up to date reference data model for Zone (Alias)
  • Co-ordinate with other Surfacing Zone Owners to compile complete Persistent Digital Model
  • Find and initiate the next CAS surfacing task for Surface Designers working within the zone for which you have responsibility.
  • Escalate any conflicts of input to Concept Engineer or Digital Surface Design Principal.
  • Get approval of final surface from Designer for maintaining SR3 design intent.
  • Initiate CAS surfacing tasks for Surface Designers working within zones.
  • Collaborate with Studio Engineering for hardpoint updates.
  • Supporting the Studio Design Team to enable the delivery of both digital and physical design properties.
  • Create initial theme surfaces to support feasibility studies to 'sketch' tolerances.
  • Work directly with designers, clay modelling and studio engineering teams to develop 3D Digital model data.
  • Prepare renderings, technical drawings & CAD models of design proposals in support of the Design Release Process.
  • Generate data models suitable for milling/RPT applications (e.g. closed volume STL files).
  • Contribute effectively to team technical discussions to ensure that the component engineers understand proposed design changes.
  • Supporting the Designers with the generation of 3D models from 2D proposals/verbal directions.
  • Provide technical information and support to senior management for design reviews.
  • Carry out special projects, as directed by management.
  • Plan and prioritise own workload.
  • Proactive approach to work and group interaction.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent design / engineering related discipline.
  • Autodesk Alias Surface proficiency with OEM studio experience
  • 2D presentation/Animation ability in addition to Class A surfacing expertise.
  • A working knowledge of component manufacturing tooling requirements.
  • Relevant Automotive Design experience of 5+ years.
  • Product development process awareness 5+ years.
  • Degree qualified or industry experience in relevant environment.
  • Excellent program timing skills.
  • Proven experience of multiple exterior and interior programs.
  • High engineering knowledge
  • Deliver programs from concept to A class.
  • SubD, Vred, Icem
  • Microsoft Office.
  • Adobe preferred.
