Purpose of Role

Please note, this role is a fixed term contract for 12 months.

As the Sales & Marketing Category Manager you will be responsible for the overall commercial management of all sub-categories within S&M. Including but not limited to; Agency spend, Events, Media, Subscriptions, Print, Translations, Creative, Digital, PR/Media Monitoring etc. You will be responsible for the category’s sourcing strategy and the execution of strategic and complex Sales & Marketing sourcing projects through the full procurement lifecycle.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Act as liaison and senior escalation point between McLaren and our vendors, ensuring all requirements and concerns are fully understood and ensure these are fed back during the appropriate stages to the vendors.
  • Confidently and competently negotiate with vendors at a high level ensuring best value and quality of service is maintained.
  • Work collaboratively with all internal stakeholders (Sales & Marketing, Finance, Legal and Service Owners) throughout sourcing projects to ensure continued alignment of objectives.
  • Work with C-Level and Directors across the business to ensure the business’ objectives are met.
  • Identify commercial opportunities and sourcing strategies within (and where appropriate across) the various McLaren companies in the Sales & Marketing expenditure category.
  • Support the Head of Procurement in the delivery of agreed strategic objectives in line with the Information Technology strategy and relevant Business Plans.
  • To provide expertise in the Sales & Marketing sourcing category, including market knowledge and sourcing best practice.
  • Define and deliver the Sales & Marketing category plans and identify appropriate sourcing strategies which generate benefits and achieve financial savings whilst mitigating risk for McLaren.
  • Ensure all Sales & Marketing contracts including annual renewals are managed appropriately.
  • Ensure consistent procurement processes are undertaken to select vendors that will provide optimum value and delivery for McLaren. This will include as appropriate, assessment of vendor risk, objective management of evaluation processes, negotiation and contract execution
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Have a good understanding of agency costing models, framework agreements and other subcategories of common Sales & Marketing spend.
  • Strong commercial awareness with an ability to assess risk in the appropriate context.
  • Well-developed negotiation skills in a Sales & Marketing/ Corporate Services category underpinned by detailed contract knowledge, including complex service scope and SLAs.
  • Adept at handling multiple projects and contracts concurrently.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead negotiations and support in the development of negotiation strategies for large and complex projects and contracts in Sales & Marketing.
  • The ability to combine professional project management and procurement skills on large scale projects.
  • Experience in drafting, reviewing and controlling contractual documentation, specifically AGILE software development projects.
  • Excellent High level of communication skills to support cross-departmental and stakeholder liaison.
  • Demonstrable experience in setting up category plans and/or sourcing strategies in Sales & Marketing/ Corporate Services environment which focusses on both short-term savings and risk mitigation as well as long term commercial opportunities.
  • Strong experience of planning, running and executing complex sourcing process end to end.
  • Demonstrated, previous experience delivering cost savings and spend rationalisation.
