Data Discipline & Compliance:
Drive retailer engagement and accountability to ensure accurate, complete, and timely composite submissions across the network.
Performance Monitoring & Analytics:
Track and analyse key retailer performance metrics on a continual basis to identify key trends, root causes, and value creation opportunities.
Action & Implementation:
Develop and deploy targeted performance initiatives and turnaround strategies, working directly with regions and retailers to execute and track results.
Continuous Improvement:
Establish a feedback loop between data, insight, and action, embedding a culture of performance ownership across the network.
Dealer Incentive Programs:
Input into dealer incentive or bonus programs that McLaren might run. Ensure bonus criteria align with performance goals (not just volume, but also quality metrics like adherence to standards or CSI).
Reporting & Communication:
Provide regular internal reporting to the Global & Regional Directors, flagging any critical issues and recovery plans in a timely manner.
Training & Development:
Identify competency gaps in sales or dealership management that affect performance. Collaborate with McLaren’s training teams to arrange targeted training or mentoring for dealer staff.
Highly Analytical:
Strong capability to interpret complex financial and operational data, with the ability to turn insight into clear, actionable strategies. Spots trends like declining conversion rates or excessive demo stock and can correlate them with dealer behaviors.
Retailer-Facing Experience:
Experience working within a dealership environment or in an OEM field-based / retailer-facing role, with a practical understanding of dealer operations. Strong understanding of dealership sales/aftersales processes, the challenges of running a dealership, and what levers to pull for improvement. Experience in the luxury segment is highly valuable to appreciate the standards required.
Commercially Astute:
Deep understanding of automotive retail economics, with the ability to identify performance levers that drive revenue, profitability, and customer outcomes.
Performance-Oriented:
Focused on delivering measurable outcomes, with a track record of improving business performance through structured interventions.
Influential & Collaborative:
Able to engage and challenge retailers and regional teams effectively, driving alignment and accountability for execution.
Coaching and Interpersonal Skills:
Excellent coach and mentor. Approaches underperformance with a supportive attitude, i.e. people trust them to help rather than just police. Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with dealer staff at all levels. Also capable of having tough conversations firmly but constructively if standards aren’t met. Communication is clear, respectful, and persuasive.
Results-Oriented:
Driven to help every dealer hit their targets. Has a “win together” mentality – seeing dealer success as McLaren’s success. Persistent in following up; doesn’t let improvement plans fizzle out. Celebrates wins and addresses shortfalls with equal energy.
Problem Solver:
Able to diagnose issues in a broad range of areas (marketing, staffing, process, facility) and either advise solutions or bring in the right resources who can. Creative in finding solutions that fit the particular context of each dealer, as one size often doesn’t fit all.
AI/Innovation Focus:
The Global Retailer Performance Manager can leverage digital tools and AI to monitor and enhance dealer performance in real time. Machine learning models might identify predictive indicators of dealer underperformance (such as a drop in test drive volumes foreshadowing sales decline), allowing the manager to intervene early.
