To lead the EE Architecture Team, responsible for EE Architecture strategy, Electrical Systems design & whole vehicle software integration across all the vehicle projects (Sport, Super and Ultimate lines).
This role works closely with the other “Heads of” within the Electrical Systems and Software & EE Architecture teams to deliver high quality features that meet customer expectations.
- Deliver high quality system design specifications & ECU extracts for all the vehicle projects in accordance with the McLaren Development Process and the ISO26262 requirements.
- Drive a design-led approach to systems engineering, with appropriate analysis conducted to define system behaviour, derive functional requirements & evaluate alternative system design concepts.
- Lead the creation of feature implementation & Software Platform plans for each programme. Ensure these are actively managed, keeping each platform on track & meeting its customers needs. Actively manage software development risk, prioritising specific validation / issue resolution actions as appropriate.
- Lead the standardisation, documentation & development of Software and Electronics processes, as well as the optimisation of EE Architecture related processes.
- Define the budget for all EE Architecture activities, in collaboration with all the project Vehicle Line Managers.
- Define the required EE Architecture organisation & internal / external strategy to support all projects. Select suitable external engineering partners & manage their delivery to achieve project milestones.
- Monitor the future trends for electrical architecture & design methodologies / tools. Own the McLaren technical roadmap for electrical architecture.
- Lead the contribution of the systems & software teams to all relevant PD technical roadmaps.
- Develop the team member’s skills and experience, encouraging job rotations and exposure to all the activities/workplaces, and managing the multi-site requirements (e.g., Idiada/Woking).
Business Knowledge
- Proven leadership skills in Automotive systems design, experience of managing a large team.
- Successful delivery of several complex whole vehicle software projects. Able to confidently manage project execution & risk.
Automotive market trends knowledge, experience of business model development (e.g. make or buy).
Essential Functional / Technical Skills
- Deep experience of system definition, system architecture development, requirements specification, design/performance modelling, systems integration, system assessment and acceptance.
- Automotive engineering experience in EE architecture network design, with good knowledge of the LIN, CAN, CAN FD & Ethernet standards.
- Experience working with AUTOSAR standards, & developing products in line with Functional Safety and Cybersecurity standards.
- Technical leadership skills - recognised by a wide development team as the reference point for any complex cross-functional issues.
- Degree in an Electrical or Electronics engineering, 2:1 or above.
- High quality mindset, attention to detail in reliability & safety.
- Strong collaboration skills. Actively promotes cross functional team working & the most efficient solution for the business even if it means more workload in his/her team.
