Purpose of Role

The successful candidate will be working in the Emissions team, with full responsibility for the delivery and reporting of emissions legislative compliance for the powertrain programme.


Principal Accountabilities
  • Responsible for autonomously developing software and calibration to deliver Emissions and Efficiency Attributes, defining SW specifications and debugging issues & reporting  progress / concerns / recommendations to the Principal Engineer and the wider leadership team.
  • Influence the wider vehicle behaviour that may impact the emissions / efficiency attributes, relating to the base engine hardware and calibration, but also to the transmission and hybrid architecture and strategy (Transitions, Emissions optimization of torque split, target state of charge etc.)
  • Responsible for attribute target setting - studying Emissions / Fuel Consumption requirements for Hybrid / Plug-in vehicles for all markets and identifying gaps
  • Support and carry out Proof of Concepts for future projects and technologies
  • Gather requirements from the wider team and contribute to the development of simulation / processing tools
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Has experienced a full emissions programme from concept to production.
  • Able to define emissions deliverables based on the high level programme specifications, understanding the legal requirements.
  • Able to understand future legislation requirements and assist in developing a roadmap to achieve future requirements.
  • Able to guide fault investigation / resolution of existing products and taking lessons learned to apply to future products.

Essential Functional / Technical Skills

  • Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree 2:1 or above
  • Able to independently manage the operation of an engine dyno, vehicle testbench or running Real Driving Emissions tests
  • Strong knowledge of PFI/GDI functionalities and the methods for emissions optimisation.
  • Excellent understanding of worldwide emissions legislation and approaches to meet legislation.
  • Good ability to balance the needs to different attributes to achieve the best overall product possible.
  • Experience of software requirements capture and detailed software design into specifications
  • Model-based control software development and verification would be beneficial.

  • Travelling to proving grounds in all seasons (winter/summer testing)
  • Support Emissions tests (Development and Certification) with very frequent transfer to external facilities in UK and Spain
