What to Expect

We are recruiting for a Metal Fabricator to join our Vehicle Development department in Woking. As the Metal Fabricator you will be working within a small team of the Prototype Workshop serving the requirements of McLaren Automotive's Product Development Engineering base for vehicle development from concept to production release.

What You'll Do

  • Responsibility for all sheet metal fabrication work requested to be carried out by the Vehicle Development Workshop.
  • Working closely with members of the Vehicle Development build team to build high-quality, reliable prototype vehicles, bucks and rigs for effective test and development of new vehicle technologies.
  • Supporting a diverse range of activities, including vehicle builds, rig builds and vehicle testing preparation.
  • Supporting prototype and development vehicle component manufacture.
  • Co-ordinating simultaneous work requests in an effective and intelligent manner, managing conflicting priorities to tight deadlines.
  • Developing good working relationships with members of the core Vehicle Development build team and Product Development Engineers to ensure quick problem resolution, and efficient communication of technical issues, and the contribution to prototype and development schemes and designs.
  • Responsibility for metal fabrication plant and equipment care and maintenance.
  • Working additional hours including weekends when required beyond the stated core hour day to maintain work request, and project schedules.
  • Compliance with the company Health and Safety policies at all times.
What You'll Bring

  • Extensive sheet metal fabrication and welding experience of one off, and small batch parts.
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle architecture and operation.
  • Experience of working with the up to date metallic and composite materials used in the high performance vehicle and, or aerospace industries.
  • Good degree of computer literacy, including the use of CAD for drawing viewing.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications and drawings.
  • Engineering based Apprenticeship training giving a competency in general engineering workshop skills.
