Purpose of Role

  • Responsible to manage and deliver all aspects of major propulsion projects from inception to end of life.
  • Leading cross functional working across the business for the given project.
  • Driving and developing McLaren platform approach.
  • Maintaining the whole life plan for the project including future variants.
  • Working closely with the ‘Chief Engineer’ (technical authority) for the project to deliver all programme management responsibilities.
Principal Accountabilities

  • Responsibility for the delivery of the propulsion projects into the platform programme and subsequent integration to individual vehicle programmes including:
1.      Leading delivery of project to meet budget, timing & quality
2.      Define and maintain the plan for platform project gateways
3.      Run propulsion project gateways
4.      Run propulsion project meeting and support key vehicle project meetings.
5.      Define and maintain the PMXU for given project and lead McLaren platform approach  
6.      Headcount planning & allocation             
7.      Budget management & tracking        
8.      Vehicle build & development support            
9.      Supplier liaison & management
  • Planning, monitoring and execution of project activities to ensure project delivery in line with MDP2.0 and gateway deliverables for both the propulsion and vehicle programmes.
  • Establish and control system design, release (ETRS), development and validation plans in association with functional experts and in line with technical risk management processes.
  • Lead team to delivery KPI’s: BOM/Investment/Quality concerns/Build deviations/Engineering release/Headcount
  • Lead supply chain activities in association with suppliers, buyers, cost engineering, engineering, SQA and logistics to ensure design to cost, supplier nomination and delivery of components and systems on schedule for all phases of prototype, pilot and pre-production.
  • Ensure manufacturability and compliance with quality standards of all components and systems within the defined BOM.
  • Review and manage the opening and closure of Quality concerns, leading team with PPS (Practical Problem Solving).
  • Definition with technical experts of all the POC to support the advance engineering activities.
  • Respond to requests for information or specification change with assessment of risk, cost and timing.
  • Preparation and presentation of material to support external and internal project status reviews at all levels in the business.
  • Assist and provide direction to the marketing, sales and service team to ensure the platform project delivers voice of customer needs and requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Programme management qualifications and experience
  • Engineering Platform and architecture experience advantageous
  • Engineering experience of ICE/MHEV/PHEV and BEV propulsion systems advantageous
  • Leader of high performance cross functional teams
  • Extensive experience of automotive design and development
  • Excellent systems design and development knowledge
  • Proven problem solving and change management capability (PPS)

  • Excellent feasibility assessment skills including design for manufacture and DFMEA input
  • Experience in component release management.
  • Experience of high and niche vehicle (low volume) programmes
  • PC literate and at ease with MS Office products (e.g project)                                                            
  • Experienced in OEM or tier one component delivery
  • SAP or equivalent software.
