Purpose of Role

This role will be responsible for supporting the Product Strategy Team and inputting across multiple aspects of the Product Strategy function, including: Product Definition, Volume Planning, Pricing, Product Development, Product Marketing and Product Management.

Principal Accountabilities

Product Definition:
  • Drawing on market data and primary research sources to provide recommendations of new product concepts, you will work with the Product Manager to develop the initial business case - detailing product USPs, setting key targets and attributes, identifying target customer types to establish the product positioning.
  • To do so you will need to develop your understanding of the luxury automotive segment and be able to identify the changing needs of the customer base and recognise the appropriate opportunities for McLaren.
Product Development:
Product Strategy provides the link between McLaren Automotive’ s Engineering and Sales and Marketing functions.  As Product Analyst you will support the McLaren Development Process:
  • By providing the ‘voice of the customer’ as the product transitions from concept to launch, preparing key information at programme Gateways.  This will require an understanding of customer requirements and competitor offerings presented in a clear and coherent way.
  • You will populate McLaren Development Process gateway deliverables with information. Other information will be required, necessitating coordination with other Commercial and Product Strategy functions, Regional Sales Teams, Finance, Marketing and PR to define a company-wide go-to-market plan.  
  • Defining the business case for customer selectable optional content
Product Marketing:
  • In preparation for a product launch you will be responsible for supporting the Product Management Team in identifying and coordinating the technical product detail. 
  • Working with colleagues from Global Marketing and PR you will contribute to positioning documents and the retailer training programme, as well as fulfilling the role of ‘product expert’ in the preparation of product correct marketing materials. 
  • You will be responsible for delivering the relevant comprehensive Product Guide
  • You will also support at marketing and PR events as a customer and media facing Product Expert.
  • You will be responsible for competitor analysis and reporting.
Product Management:
  • Support tracking of the commercial performance of specific product lines, through the collection and analysis of sales and options performance, competitive positioning and customer feedback.
  • Support vehicle pricing analysis for specific product categories, following approved pricing strategy and methodologies
  • Liaise with the Regional Product and Sales teams to further understand product feedback and sales performance.
  • Present this data to the Product Strategy Team in order from them to understand and address individual market requirements and suggest proposed changes/improvements to the product.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Educated to degree level
  • Experience within the Automotive (or relevant) industry, in particular Sales and Marketing is desirable.
  • Experience analysing trends through data sets, relating to the Automotive industry is desirable.
  • PC literate - highly competent in Excel (able to construct and manage complex spreadsheets) and Powerpoint (able to independently produce powerful presentations).
  • Language - fluent in English, an additional language is an advantage.
