Purpose of Role

 

 

 

·        Managing a team responsible for the definition, development, and validation of Structural and Fatigue Analysis of McLaren vehicles of Chassis Systems and Body Structures. 

 

·        Leading FEA analysis supporting vehicle projects from concept selection, through optimisation, to delivery and launch. The role covers developing, maintaining, analysing, and reporting on components and system models.

 

·        Overseeing all internal and external Structural and Fatigue performance, supporting and approving supplier reports and workstreams. Interaction with Engineering teams across Durability, Vehicle Dynamics, NVH, Passive Safety, Concept will be required.

 

·        Reporting directly to the Senior Manager Design Validation & CAE and liaising with various function groups the Principal Engineer will be required to communicate progress and critical issues to Chief Engineers, Chief Designers and Directors

 

·        Responsible for defining and managing the simulation plan and SW forecast for the area under direct responsibility

 

Principal Accountabilities

 

·

 

·        The Principal Engineer will be responsible for maintaining, analysing, correlating and reporting on the vehicle and system models. Models will be used to study performance against targets relating to Durability

 

·        The Principal Engineer will lead the Structural/Durability CAE team and work with Program Management to assess risk on new projects and develop plans to manage this risk thought virtual and physical test activities.

 

·        The Principal Engineer will supervise external CAE partners to ensure that all CAE analysis conforms to company procedures, industry best practice and global regulations.

 

·        The Principal Engineer will determine the most efficient engineering techniques and deliver maximum value to program, through an optimised modelling approach. Alongside supporting vehicle programs, the Engineering Manager will develop the team experience and know-how of best practice, methods, technologies.

 

·        The Principal Engineer ger will develop relationships with academia, software and hardware suppliers and key consultancies.

 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

 

·        Minimum 7 years of experience in automotive product development or project leadership function

 

·        Experienced in an OEM or Tier1 with a high level of technical knowledge on Durability and Chassis/Body Structures. Powertrain and Hybrid Systems knowledge will be beneficial.

 

·        Experience of high volume and niche vehicle (low volume) programmes

 

·        Extensive experience developing, correlation and analysing of full vehicle and system level models for use in studying Durability attributes.

 

·        Experience in delivery CAE vehicle durability attribute from concepts to series production.

 

·        Advanced knowledge of Hyperworks, Abaqus Explicit/Implicit, Optistruct, NCode

 

·        Experience in testing measurements and data postprocessing would be beneficial

 

·        Good knowledge of validation, verification and testing process

 

·        Good knowledge of fatigue life prediction and material behaviour

 

·        Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to operate within a team environment.

 

·        Strong communication of simulation results via comprehensive and intelligible simulation reports.

 

·        Good analytical, written and oral presentation skills

 

·        Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree 2:1 or above
