Purpose of Role

  • Reporting to the Principal Engineer, you will design & implement solutions for powertrain components or systems presenting failures in service (transmission, electric drive technologies and other auxiliary components) for high performance vehicles in Production.
  • You will work with the Team of Powertrain Engineers and Technical Experts, who are responsible for designing or overseeing the designs to understand the issue & present a solution.
  • You will take ownership of design and delivery of solutions as components or subsystems on McLaren Powertrain Programmes.
  • Interfacing with other engineering Teams, takes responsibility for integration of Powertrain designs within all other vehicle systems
  • As part of a highly dynamic team, influencing concepts and delivering the application of existing & new technology on exciting new products.
Principal Accountabilities

  • Detailed knowledge of Electric drive technologies and diagnostics is essential.
  • Responsibility of components design, from concept to design development to delivery on time for McLaren programmes.
  • Knowledge of automotive processes used to identify & define problems, understand them, track progress and fixing the problem.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and associated tools; IS/IS NOT, Fishbone/Ishikawa etc.
  • Liaise with suppliers and development partners, to deliver designs to defined technical specifications in line with the Powertrain & Vehicle programme timing.
  • BoM management and delivery of component and sub-system for the assigned designs in SAP.
  • Responsibility for maintaining; technical Specifications, DFMEAs and DVP.
  • Takes ownership to meet cost, timing and quality targets.
  • Co-ordinates Design for Assembly, Manufacture & Service reviews with the necessary support departments and incorporates any such required changes.
  • Contributes to the technical assessment, integration and application of appropriate Powertrain technology.
  • Support vehicle programme attribute owners with respect to development and reporting.
  • Ensure the components interface seamlessly to the wider car.
  • Responsibility of design release in line with Engineering Timing Release Schedule requirements
  • Guarantee delivery of components and/or sub-system for designated engine projects in line with MDP (McLaren Development Process) and that Project Management KPIs are on track.
  • Cooperates with the Powertrain team in the execution and evaluation of results of component testing and to support powertrain & vehicle development activities and vehicle manufacturing, launch & planning.
  • Preparation and presentation of material to support external and internal project status reviews
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A good level of technical knowledge & experience of Electric Drive components is essential.
  • PC literate and at ease with MS Office products is essential
  • High Voltage Senior Authorised Person trained is essential or training will be provided
  • Knowledge and experience of using Electric drive diagnostic software is essential.
  • Proficient CATIA V5 2D/3D draughting/solid and surface modelling skills is desirable.
  • Competence in Design and FEA of mechanical components is desirable.
  • Engineering Degree 2:1 or above desirable
