Purpose of Role

Lead a team of skilled inspectors (on one shift in a weekly rotating pattern) and ensure that supplied vehicle components meet Quality standards required by McLaren Automotive Ltd.

Ensure that containment activities required for series production are carried out in a controlled and timely manner.

Ensure that any non conforming product is processed according to the organisation’s Quality Management System.

Collate data for daily reporting of KPI’s, putting in place CCARs where gaps to KPI exist. Deputise and support the area Group Leader ensuring customer requirements are met.

Manage the day-to-day operation of both the “Parts Quality Hotline” and “NCP” processes within MPC.

Drives level zero problem solving for supplied parts quality issues, working closely with SQA to ensure that issues are escalated in a timely manner.

Maintain the running of the department within budget.

Principal Accountabilities
 Direct responsibility for ~5 personnel

Ensure consistent use of comprehensive operational Quality standards detailed in the standardised inspection processes

Support the Parts Quality Group Leader on timely delivery of department & business targets & stands in when needed.

Supports the urgent containment response to issues found in Warranty and MPA (McLaren Product Audit), and plant quality responses to critical line stop / stop shipment topics.

Ensures that standardised processes are consistently used

Support, drive and participate in practical problem solving activities – focused towards the timely containment of quality concerns raised (e.g via hotline)

Act as a mentor, support the development of all team members within the area

Ensures safe working environment, and leads the investigation into any near miss or accident

 Conducts 4M process audits within the team leader area

Manages training and development of team members and ensures performance appraisals are completed 2x per year

Create and publish daily quality/delivery metrics for the area
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Significant experience in inspection

Problem solving skills (e.g. PPS) – experienced practioner able to train others

Capable using the MSOffice suite of software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Proven track record of delivering targets (S,Q,D,C)

Good people management skills

 Good presentation skills

Able to work autonomously or as part of a wider team

Able to read and interpret engineering drawings


Previous team leader experience

Experience of APQP, PPAP

Experience of lean manufacturing & problem solving tools

Experience of using SAP & associated tools

Experience within a Quality role at OEM or Tier One level

An engineering background
