Purpose of Role

The role of the Paint Technical team Leader is to co-ordinate the day-to-day activities of a multi-functional team and ensure daily production targets are achieved, application methods and TDS sheets are followed and maintained, reporting into the Paint shop Group Leader the technical team leader will be Working closely with our paint technical partner Akzo Nobel to develop new colours for our pallet and ensure they have been validated and assigned a RPN number ready for production use. Assess training requirements and improvements within the application team and coordinate accordingly. PPS (Practical Problem Solving) approach to any negative trends and any process related issues.


Principal Accountabilities
  • Understand & demonstrate a broad knowledge of the build process to provide training & assist when issues arise.
  • Provide cover for absence within your team and have a flexible approach to working hours as the business demands.
  • Train & mentor Team Members to achieve high quality in working practices and processes.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of production & business processes, i.e. quality, safety, cost, productivity.
  • Maintain Team Member versatility charts and ensure cross training & skills development.
  • Prepare for production by checking equipment, tools, parts availability, consumables etc daily.
  • Produce maintenance schedules, monitor up time of machinery and ensure daily checks are conducted.
  • Take part in problem solving activities – assist in analysis & resolution of problems, define & determine appropriate actions.
  • Maintain, drive, supervise and implement robust technical standards, systems, and processes
  • Influence technology strategies and decisions with a high-level of expertise and knowledge
  • Provide direction and support to ensure compliance with relevant legislative specifications and standards.
  • Lead a team of staff developing products, and address training needs when necessary.
  • Coordinate the regular testing of products to address faults and provide evaluations to improve them.
  • Act as a key contact with internal colleges who have technical issues.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Level 2 paint qualification is required as a minimum
  • Specific experience within paint application and polish would be advantageous
  • Previous man management experience within an automotive manufacturing environment
  • Understanding and experience in a in a manufacturing/process driven environment ideal.
  • Be able to demonstrate broad job knowledge of automotive processes and specific skills for the area in question.
  • Quality focused.
  • Good level of knowledge for Microsoft Office packages.
  • OEM Paint background is desired
  • Good level of Paint application and mixing matrix is required.
  • Paint technical experience is Required
  • Skill set reviews and associated training enhancements for team
  • Daily film build submission ensuring compliance to TDS – act upon trends
  • Paint equipment pre checks for function and cleanliness
  • Support and assist the Manufacturing Engineering team to drive improvement in the business areas of Project Management, Quality, Cost Management, and Product Delivery
