Purpose of Role

Working within the Operational Excellence team for the improvement of people and processes across the business, this role will encompass delivering data driven improvements and leading complex transformational change. Reporting into the OpEx Improvement & Support Manager, there will be an emphasis on adopting and championing initiatives whilst aligning project workstreams to ensure efforts present value to our business strategies.

The primary activities will be to support, scope and drive projects to promote process improvement opportunities through the collection and analysis of baseline performance data. Ensure that benefits are realised to improve the overall safety, quality, delivery, cost, people and plant performance and that project deliverables are sustained. Success will be driven by working with others to gain commitment, respond effectively and instigate new innovative methods. 

Following stabilisation, facilitate and participate in Kaizen & rapid Improvement events. Train and coach plant personnel on the use of LEAN & Operational Excellence methodologies.


Ensure full use and application of standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques to optimise operations and the interaction between departments, to include:

  • Lean Manufacturing 5S, Process Standardisation, Visual Management
  • Practical Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis using tools such as A3, Problem Solving, 4M
  • Project management & Planning
  • Process & Value Stream analysis
  • Data and graphical analysis
  • SQDCPE methodologies

The incumbent will build an in-depth knowledge of the end to end organisation, business processes, internal stakeholder roles and responsibilities via effective networking and learning. In tangent, will lead, support & implement effective sustainable solutions for problems arising, or for any opportunities across the whole of the business. This includes; Body Assembly, Paint, General Assembly, End of Line product quality assurance processes, Forecast and supply demand, Goods receipt, Warehousing and Line replenishment.

Support and improve Operations through:

  • Systems and data platforms such as PowerBi, PowerApps, MS Office, Visio, ERP and interacting systems (SAP an advantage)
  • Cultural alignment to McLaren behaviours, values and business processes Metrics / KPI’s / Dashboards / Business process health indicators
  • Identification and utilisation of the skills and abilities of employees at all levels
  • Planning & implementing capital projects and business cases in support of improvement plans; Planning, tracking progress, contingencies and evaluating outcomes

Principal Accountabilities

  • Implement Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement throughout the organisation by using appropriate
  • Provide essential support to operations to achieve SQDCPE daily targets
  • Influence and partner with plant personnel on improvement opportunities
  • Train & coach
  • Sustaining project & improvement efforts through, although not limited to, auditing & standardising documents
  • Facilitate Kaizen, concern & corrective actions, rapid improvement events, process mapping and Lean Manufacturing tools
  • Communicate to all levels of the organisation
  • Troubleshoot disconnects within Business Processes, Manufacturing, Quality, Assembly and back office support issues, using data driven analysis as well as ‘on the floor’ interaction and ‘in the office’ interaction
  • Define, refine and improve existing processes including; Manufacturing processes/procedures, new process development, creation of process documentation, product design for manufacture and assembly, capacity, efficiency and floor design, production processing and problem solving

It is expected that the role will reinforce the lean manufacturing and built in quality principles. It will also expand to include an operationally focused TQM approach such that on-time as planned delivery of the correct quantity of vehicles at the correct quality is achieved daily.

As well as a manufacturing environment, MPC also acts as a marketing tool for the McLaren brand. As such delivery standards and material presentation, as well as workmanship and cultural behaviours need to be continually improved and maintained to very high standards. High personal standards and the ability to encourage and develop team behaviours is essential.
