Purpose of Role

As a New Model Launch Engineer within the New Model Launch team, part of New Product Manufacturing, your focus will be to carry out the analysis of problems raised and support the relevant function group in the new product development phase. As a Launch Engineer you will get involved in several key areas including but not limited to, design reviews, pre-production build, vehicle dynamic shakedowns, and the McLaren faults management process.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Responsible for analysis via the application of available quality tools to provide a clear definition of problems raised and support the relevant function group in the new product development phase, including recommendations and validation of a robust containment solution where applicable.
  • Responsible for all prototype build phases completion, including production assessment, training, and support.
  • Responsible for BDR approvals at Launch level within SAP
  • Attend design reviews and virtual builds where relevant and highlight areas of concern / consideration
  • Dynamic shakedown RCA support where required
  • Support development of component quality standards based on Lessons Learnt (LeLe) and materials knowledge
Secondary Accountabilities
  • 5S Maintained in all working areas.
  • Confirm QN’s are raised and in the system.
  • Confirm no Health and Safety issues.
  • Cross functional working with other business areas, including controls support, ME, QE, BIW, CMM, BA, GA, BICEP support, dimensional activities, SQD activities
  • Initial indirect manpower requirements understood
  • Initial understanding of project, detailing spec book, vehicle architecture and non-carry over items/systems
  • Support HPC development for all process areas + line balance
  • Supporting launch readiness​
  • 4M validation and training plan agreed
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • The candidate will have excellent motivational attributes
  • The candidate will be prepared to coach and develop peer skill sets
  • Be expected to work unsociable hours in support of meeting program targets and maintain a flexible approach to working hours as you may be required to work shifts or support other areas of production.
  • The candidate will have an understanding of niche vehicle brand requirements and have a minimum of 12 months experience working on McLaren Products.
  • An ability to act under pressure with calmness, clarity of thought
  • The candidate will have determination to drive forward the business to ‘Best in Class’ performance standards in line with brand expectations
  • Demonstrate a methodical approach towards problem solving
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • The applicant must be extremely trustworthy
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Have value added experience in the field of production vehicle manufacturing.
  • It is preferred that the candidate will have value added experience with:
  • Prototype build activity
  • Vehicle production launch
  • Build concern reporting
