Purpose of Role

The role of the Team Leader is to co-ordinate the day-to-day activities of a multi-functional team, reporting into a Quality Manager. The role is also responsible for the control of holiday, absence management, Health & Safety and cost for the process area.

This role is shift based and will primarily be focused on the Manufacturing Quality inspection teams in Body Assembly and Paint (main shop and end of line) There will also be the requirement to support other areas of Manufacturing Quality as required.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Achieving and reporting on the daily quality and volume throughput
  • Enforcing and Upholding Quality standards
  • Control all Health & Safety requirements for persons and equipment within their workstations, including management of training, maintenance, and implementation of products
  • Contributing to the maintenance, upkeep and reporting of the Business Development Plans in your area
  • Execution of methodologies for Lean Manufacturing, such as 5S, 7 wastes and continuous improvement, always striving for perfection.
  • Understand & demonstrate a broad knowledge of the Quality process, and to provide training & assist when issues arise.
  • Provide cover for absence within your team and have a flexible approach to working hours as the business demands.
  • Train & mentor Team Members to achieve high quality in working practices and processes.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of production & business processes, i.e. quality, safety, cost, productivity.
  • Maintain Team Member skills matrices and ensure cross training & skills development.
  • Prepare for Inspection process by checking resource, equipment, tools, consumables etc required on a daily basis.
  • Assist the Group Leaders in producing daily and weekly report and giving feeding back main concerns.
  • Take part in problem solving activities – assist in analysis & resolution of problems, define & determine appropriate actions.
  • Maintain and endorse McLaren values and culture (housekeeping, appearance etc).
  • Lead by example, positively influence all Team Members and ensure they are fully motivated.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • No formal qualifications are necessary; however, knowledge of quality systems would be preferred.
  • Understanding and experience in a quality/process driven environment is essential.
  • For some positions, specific skills may be required e.g., Paint, BIW, SQA etc.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a broad job knowledge and understanding of automotive processes and specific skills.
  • Focused on continual improvement activity.
  • Good level of knowledge for Microsoft Office packages.
