Purpose of Role

Lead the Powertrain Electronics team, responsible for the powertrain software lifecycle across all the vehicle projects, and the main powertrain attributes (driveability, emission, OBD).

Principal Accountabilities

  • Manage the team responsible for the delivery of emissions, OBD, driveability and base engine mapping across the entire vehicle line.
  • Manage suppliers for technical, commercial and delivery of powertrain controllers (including engine controller, transmission controller) and ESP.
  • Define the powertrain attribute roadmap (emissions and efficiency, driveability, OBD) in close collaboration with other departments throughout the business.
  • Deliver the powertrain software/calibration for all the vehicle projects in accordance to the McLaren Development Process
  • Develop and refine the team structure, to increase the efficiency and synergies with other departments 
  • Identify and nominate appropriate suppliers for the software development, in collaboration with the Purchasing department.
  • Monitor the future trends (Technology, Legislation, Safety) for powertrain electronics to guarantee business continuous improvement.
  • Define the budget for all powertrain electronics applications, in collaboration with the programme teams.
  • Manage budget for the delivery of all aspects within the team, including tools / applications, facilities etc.
  • Develop the team member’s skills and experience, encouraging job rotations and exposure to all the activities/workplaces (e.g. Idiada/Woking).
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Team leadership within the automotive industry or similar domain.
  • Powertrain software project management for automotive applications.
  • Powertrain Application (calibration) experience on high performance vehicles  
  • Supplier partnerships management.
  • Automotive market trends knowledge, experience of business model development (e.g. make or buy).
