What to Expect
The Logistics Packaging Engineer will assist in the design, implementation, and optimisation of packaging solutions to support logistics operations. Reporting to the Senior Packaging and Continuous Improvement Engineer, this role will focus on ensuring efficient material handling, transport utilisation, and packaging standards, while supporting process improvements aligned with lean manufacturing principles.
What You'll Do
Packaging Design and Optimisation:
  • Assist in developing and implementing packaging solutions that optimise material handling, storage, and transportation within the supply chain.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure packaging meets operational and production needs.
  • Contribute to defining packaging specifications and standards to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Support the development of cost-effective, sustainable packaging solutions in collaboration with suppliers.
  • Support the implementation of new model launches and support MDP Packaging deliverables
Process Improvement:
  • Assist in analysing packaging processes to identify inefficiencies and propose improvements.
  • Help implement packaging solutions that align with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
  • Support packaging-related projects to streamline operations and reduce waste.
Data Management:
  • Maintain accurate records of packaging designs, materials, and specifications in the ‘Plan for every part’ (PFEP) database.
  • Gather and analyse data on packaging usage and performance to identify areas for improvement.
Supplier and Vendor Collaboration:
  • Assist in coordinating with suppliers and vendors to ensure packaging materials meet company standards and support operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to efforts to improve packaging materials that reduce costs and environmental impact.
Quality and Compliance:
  • Ensure that all packaging solutions comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Support the implementation of quality control processes to maintain high standards in packaging performance.
Support and Coordination:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including logistics, warehouse operations, production, and procurement to ensure effective packaging solutions are in place.
  • Provide support to the Senior Packaging and Continuous Improvement Engineer on various projects and initiatives.
Returnable Packaging Management:
  • Help manage returnable packaging systems to ensure proper handling, tracking, and reuse within the supply chain.
Performance Monitoring:
  • Track and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to packaging and logistics performance.
  • Report packaging performance metrics to the Senior Engineer and assist in identifying opportunities for improvement.
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and evolving environment with changing priorities.
  • Occasional travel to suppliers and other company locations may be required.

What You'll Bring
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in packaging, logistics, or supply chain engineering, ideally in a manufacturing or automotive environment.
Skills:
  • Basic knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
  • Analytical skills to assess packaging performance and suggest improvements.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Proficiency:
  • Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
