No restraints. No limitations. We don’t simply push boundaries. We completely rethink them. McLaren Automotive exists to create breath-taking performance road cars.
With innovation at the core of all we do, every challenge starts with the same question. How can we do it better? This restless spirit runs right through McLaren Automotive. And the search for perfection is evident in everything we do.
The Logistics Engineering team provide a vital support role to the Logistics Operations team by designing and maintaining the methods and processes required to effectively support the delivery of component materials to the production line for assembly of vehicles on the McLaren assembly line.
The Logistics Engineering team apply the scientific and mathematical principles of engineering to the processes of Logistics Operations to identify and unlock value with the purpose of building a more efficient logistics infrastructure, ensuring that inventory is organised in a streamlined and efficient method for storage, picking and delivery to the production line for manufacturing of finished vehicles.
- Carry out continuous improvement studies using time and motion, zero base analysis, flow path - analysis, supply chain analysis, or warehouse space analysis to establish efficiency improvements.
- Maintain logistics operations work flows to map part replenishment cycles.
- Apply logistics modelling techniques to address issues such as operational process improvement or facility design and layout within the warehouse and production line environment.
- Manage new part introduction onto the production line, ensuring delivery methods are established, and parts are available at point of fit when required.
- Manage old part run out from the production line, ensuring delivery methods are removed and stock is cleansed from the point of fit when it is no longer required.
- Support Senior Logistics Engineer to create models or scenarios to predict the impact of changing circumstances specifically when retiring exiting models.
- Develop internal analysis tools, metric or key performance indicators to establish the efficiency of the Logistics Operations team.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and work instructions to streamline and maintain the operating processes for material transfer, storage and line delivery.
- Maintain PFEP (plan for every part), detailing Logistics Operations delivery methods, part pack factors and fit point.
- Support new model team to seamlessly role out new model introduction.
- Interrogate new model bill of materials to establish new part content.
- Establish production line delivery methods and delivery quantities for each part.
- Carry out process mapping to aid Senior Logistics Engineer to calculate headcount requirements for new model introductions.
- Create production line and warehouse layouts to establish the impact of new model introduction.
- Assist Senior Logistics Engineer to project manage new model introduction onto the production line, working alongside Logistics Operations teams to ensure seamless integration into the business.
- Support Senior Logistics Engineer to prepare logistic strategies or conceptual designs for production facilities and materials delivery method improvements.
- Assess the cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services - Determine feasibility of designing new facilities or modifying existing facilities, based on factors such as cost, available space, schedule, technical requirements, or ergonomics.
- Identify cost-reduction or process-improvement opportunities.
- Possess a relevant professional qualification and/or suitable background experience in internal logistics operations within a production environment, preferably Automotive.
