Purpose of Role

Working closely with the other members of the Commercial & Legal team, including the General Counsel, to provide legal support to McLaren Automotive Limited and its subsidiary companies in relation to its fast developing global operations.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, including supplier contracts relating to the manufacture of McLaren vehicles
  • Experience, knowledge and interest in data privacy law, processes and compliance
  • Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, including global dealer agreements, relating to the supply of McLaren vehicles
  • Managing and directing legal matters by delivering timely, cost effective and technically correct advice and guidance in an accessible and solution orientated manner
  • Advising and supporting the company’s global sales, engineering, operations, marketing and finance teams to ensure corporate compliance and consistency (including processing of personal data)
  • Drafting and negotiating R&D, partnership, promotional and licensing agreements relating to the company’s intellectual property
  • Communicating to all levels of management potential legal risks and mitigation strategies relating to the company’s business
  • Instructing external counsel and actively managing fees
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of knowledge management, and actively sharing knowledge with colleagues across the business
  • Conducting and arranging internal legal training for colleagues across the business
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Qualified solicitor with a strong academic background
  • Specific experience in commercial law with experience in advising on legal and regulatory risks in the context of a commercial business
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills with focus on plain language drafting
  • Flexible approach with an ability to advise on a wide range of legal matters as and when they arise
  • Experience in advising on multi-jurisdictional transactions
  • Ability to establish trusted relationships with colleagues
  • IP, data protection, litigation or employment law experience would be an advantage
