Purpose of Role

A successful Industrial Engineer will use his/her process improvement experience to quantitatively assess current production/business system performance and execute change to reduce cost and optimize capacity.  This role demands excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as a holistic understanding of manufacturing operations.  Industrial Engineers will be responsible for direct/indirect labour and activities affecting line speed, cycle checks and workstation assignments, change control and line balancing.  A qualified candidate will utilise lean concepts to identify/eliminate waste and perform time/motion studies.  This position will assist the IE Manager and IE Senior with technical services to maintain efficient levels of lean manufacturing and manning.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Display a positive attitude and practice strong work ethics that reflects the mission, philosophy and goals of McLaren. 
  • Collaborate with engineering teams in leading the design of layout, modelling/simulation, and material flow integration to ensure data aligns with the overall plan and vision for the factory. 
  • Headcount monitoring and liaison with production management. 
  • Ownership of the Hours Per Car (HPC) data for series production ensuring plant efficiency and output targets can be achieved. 
  • Develop and deploy a framework of continuous improvement utilizing lean principles by performing value-stream analysis simulations. Reduce scrap, rework, and cycle times. 
  • Work with engineering and operation teams to identify production bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with various engineering teams to determine overall equipment effectiveness and associated improvement strategies. 
  • Gain buy in from a diverse group of stakeholders utilising data. 
  • Drive other projects as needed by management or as business needs change.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • BS/BEng or MS/MEng Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and/or equivalent experience. 
  • Evidence of exceptional ability. 
  • Extensive experience with leading continuous improvement and operational excellence projects in a mid to low volume manufacturing environment. 
  • Experience as part of a project team prioritising multiple continuous improvement projects. 
  • Demonstrate detailed analysis experience necessary to make data driven decisions. 
  • Demonstrated strengths in either material flow integration, factory layout design, or factory modelling and simulation. 
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Knowledge and proficiency with AutoCAD, Catia, MATLAB, Flexsim, Simul8 or related, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
