The McLaren Automotive Indirect Procurement Department is an exciting yet demanding, fast paced and commercially driven environment.
As an IT Buyer in McLaren Automotive, you will play a crucial role in the procurement process for information technology (IT) products and services. Your primary responsibility will be to identify, evaluate, and acquire IT goods and services at competitive prices, ensuring the smooth operation of our IT infrastructure. You will also be expected to acquire goods and services for other Indirect Procurement Categories on occasion. This role requires attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a solid understanding of IT products and market trends within the automotive industry.
The successful candidate will be working as part of a high performing and agile team, with direct report into the IT Category Manager. Cross functional engagement with our IT, Engineering, Quality, Production and Legal Teams is vital for successful delivery and performance.
- IT Procurement: Source, evaluate, and select IT vendors and suppliers to meet the specific IT needs of our automotive manufacturing company.
- Vendor management: Build and maintain relationships with IT vendors and suppliers, negotiating contracts, pricing, and terms to ensure the best value for the organization.
- Market research: Stay updated on IT industry trends, market conditions, and emerging technologies within the automotive sector to inform purchasing decisions and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Purchase order management: Generate and manage purchase orders for IT products and services, ensuring accuracy, adherence to budgetary constraints, and timely delivery to support ongoing operations.
- Inventory management: Maintain accurate records of IT assets, monitor stock levels, and coordinate with relevant teams to ensure availability of necessary equipment and software licenses for production and other business requirements.
- Contract administration: Draft and review contractual agreements, service level agreements (SLAs), and terms and conditions with IT vendors, ensuring compliance with automotive industry regulations and standards.
- Budget monitoring: Collaborate with the finance team to monitor and control IT procurement budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures specific to the automotive manufacturing industry in the UK.
- Documentation and reporting: Maintain comprehensive procurement documentation, including purchase orders, contracts, and vendor performance evaluations. Prepare regular reports on procurement activities, cost savings, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to provide insights for management decision-making.
- Education: Good GCSEs or A-levels (or equivalent qualification) in business studies, supply chain management, or a related field.
- Experience: Previous experience in procurement, supply chain, or IT purchasing is preferred. Experience in the automotive industry is a plus. Experience with procurement systems, especially SAP, is required.
- Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of IT products and services specific to the automotive manufacturing industry in the UK. Familiarity with market dynamics, emerging trends, and regulatory requirements within the automotive IT landscape.
- Analytical skills: Ability to analyse data, conduct cost-benefit analysis, and make data-driven decisions. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar tools is desirable.
- Attention to detail: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and maintain accurate records.
- Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with internal stakeholders, vendors, and suppliers.
