Purpose of Role

The Vehicle electronics team are responsible for the delivery of electrical systems in McLaren vehicles.   Responsibilities encompass Vehicle Infotainment and Driver Information domain controllers, displays, branded audio partnerships, the packaging of the approximately 40 electronic control modules and the Electrical Distribution System.  The team is also responsible for the specifications, management and delivery of tier #1 supplier parts and reports to the Director of Electronic Systems and Controls, working alongside our in-house software and systems and validation teams. 

Principal Accountabilities


Principal Accountabilities of The Role

  •        Lead an approximately 100 strong Vehicle Electronics team, constituting a mix of internal and external employees.
  •          Ensure that McLaren Development Process (MDP) deliverables are completed for relevant gateways for all vehicle programs.
  • Work with Product Strategy teams to identify and implement strategic partnerships supporting the ES&C strategic vision.
  •   Act as champion for key supplier technical and delivery design reviews
  • Monitor the future trends (Technology, Legislation, Safety) for E/E components to guarantee business continuous improvement.
  • Define the budget for all E/E components applications, in collaboration with the project responsible and the electronics managers.
  • Develop the team member’s skills and experience, encouraging job rotations and exposure to all the activities/workplaces (e.g. Idiada/Woking).


Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in the automotive industry.
  • Track record of electrical and software system problem solving and automotive product launch.
  • Extensive experience in component development, test and sign-off processes.
  • Proven ability to work in a cross functional and multi-cultural teams.
  • E/E components and processes experience, project management for automotive applications.
  • Functional safety (e.g. ISO 26262) experience on several projects (software/hardware).  
  • Adept at supplier partnership management.
  • Automotive market trends knowledge, experience of business model development (e.g. make or buy).
