Purpose of Role

  • Reporting to the Manager or Principal Engineer, the Graduate Design Engineer will be working on all aspects of Cooling, Fuel & HVAC team on our series and future vehicle programmes.
  • Working on a wide range of components.
  • “Cradle to Grave” approach – working within a cross functional team from R&D stage, through concept, design release, production launch and series production support to collectively deliver the whole vehicle specification targets.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Design and update components to meet cost targets while achieving challenging performance attributes and the lowest feasible weight.
  • Develop and update Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing on CAD models taking into account all inputs from parts suppliers, assembly processes and Dimensional Management studies.
  • Liaison with the rest of the design and engineering community, suppliers, manufacturing engineering and R&D team.
  • Supporting early concept and styling feasibility studies.
  • Coordinate your design work to deliver timely design releases.
  • Build support (prototype and production).
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and further development of CAD modelling and product definition techniques.
  • Project manage scope of work, interfaces to other internal departments & interactions with suppliers.
  • Escalate issues & roadblocks to line management as appropriate.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Education to Degree level in a relevant Engineering discipline – mechanical, automotive, motorsport etc.
  • Experience of 3D CAD software, CATIA V5 is preferred.
  • Strong passion for automotive design and development.
  • Sound understanding of mechanical design fundamentals.
  • Great attention to detail and an attitude to produce ‘right first time’ quality work. 
  • Good materials knowledge, with emphasis on high performance and lightweight materials (carbon composites, glass composites, aluminium alloys).
  • Good understanding of GD&T standards.
  • Understanding of FE analysis techniques to drive structural design and its optimisation wold be an advantage.
  • PC literate and at ease with MS Office products.
