Purpose of Role

Electronic Systems at McLaren Automotive are a key element characterising the performance and attributes of our cars. The features and applications we develop are fundamental for the performance of the vehicles, and highly influencing our customers’ perception of the quality of our products.

In our highly innovative landscape, Functional Safety has a central role in the electronics hardware and software development, from concept design to delivery of our products to customer.

The development process according to ISO 26262 at McLaren Automotive has started a decade ago and matured to what is now a wide scope of ISO 26262 systems across the vehicle Architecture, including Hybrid Powertrain, Chassis, Body, HMI, and Passive Safety domains.

The Functional Safety processes at McLaren Automotive are well established, but as part of the McLaren DNA we are constantly looking for improvement, striving for excellence in the performance of our cars, without compromises on Functional Safety.

The Functional Safety Team’s responsibilities extend to several layers in the development lifecycle, notably vehicle level, item level, and has a direct interaction with the in-house ASW software development team for internally developed Functional Safety software components, embedded in our in-house AUTOSAR Architecture.

Principal Accountabilities
·    Responsible for the whole ISO 26262 V-cycle activities for the assigned vehicle programme, from item definition to software requirements specification
·    Support the definition and negotiation of the development interface agreements with suppliers and follow up activities with regular catch-up for the functional safety topics
·    Perform appropriate FMEA / FTA for the assigned systems
·    Maintain the requirements and testing specification in DOORS, ensuring the traceability and consistency within the multiple levels
·    Ensure that the Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) activities are carried out for the assigned vehicle programme, minimising the number of findings
·    Be the subject-matter expert of Functional Safety for technical discussions with the internal development team and with Tier 1 suppliers and assessors
·    Support the software implementation and validation of in-house safety software monitors and safety functions to fulfil the safety concepts and requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
·    Proven experience in successfully applying ISO 26262 on automotive systems, including safety analysis (HARA, FMEA, FTA, etc.)
·    Awareness of the state-of-the-art automotive hardware and software solutions and best practices relevant to Functional Safety
·    Understanding of the automotive electrical architectures, including the AUTOSAR standard and software integration paradigms, communication protocols and standards (Ethernet, CAN, LIN, etc.)
·    Ability to produce formal documentation to a highly professional standard using IBM Rational DOORS
·    Masters degree in either engineering, information technology, computer science or similar
