Description & Requirements

Background

No restraints. No limitations. We don’t simply push boundaries. We completely rethink them. McLaren Automotive exists to create breath-taking performance road cars.

With innovation at the core of all we do, every challenge starts with the same question. How can we do it better? This restless spirit runs right through McLaren Automotive. And the search for perfection is evident in everything we do.

Purpose of Role

As a Finance Analyst you will be responsible for business partnering some of the most exciting departments within McLaren Automotive. The main purpose of this role is to support these departments to drive profitability and optimise cash flow. This role will offer exposure to the whole business from a finance perspective, from short term tactical activities to longer term business planning.

You will be responsible for several key activities:

  • Managing and reporting performance against budget and forecast, both P&L and cash flow
  • Short and long-term financial planning
  • Scenario analysis & financial modelling
  • Continuous improvement of the processes and tools at your disposal
Principal Accountabilities
  • Support all aspects of your departments’ financial statements and performance.
  • Challenge budget holders to drive accountability, as well as providing them with the tools necessary to track progress against their financial targets and allow them to operate within the agreed budgets.
  • Operate as the first point of contact for all financial matters relating to your business partners and ensure that the financial impact of decision making is understood and carefully considered.
  • Support the monthly rolling forecast process and annual business planning cycles. Ensure that forecasts and budgets are submitted on time and are bought into by the budget holders.
  • Build an understanding of the financial performance and the commercial background and be able to articulate this to both finance and non-finance colleagues.
  • Play an active role in cash flow forecasting activities with a particular focus on deriving the cash flow from the P&L and balance sheet. Preparation of analysis packs that clearly present the key assumptions and variance drivers to the team and senior management.
  • Continually review and improve the tools and business processes that the business relies on for dynamic and prompt decision support.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • This role could suit a part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent), or someone looking to start their studies towards a qualification.
  • A competitive study support package is on offer to support the successful candidate with their qualification.
  • Experience in a finance role would be advantageous.
  • Good Excel skills required to interrogate and manage large volumes of complex data.
  • Experience of working with accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Confident with offering constructive challenges to colleagues.
  • Ability to understand and be comfortable with the detail but also to summarise key aspects for management consumption.
  • Demonstrate a continuous improvement approach to work by identifying areas for process improvements and implementing solutions.
Personal Attributes
  • Proactive with a relentless drive towards target achievement, problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Natural aptitude for commercial finance, a curiosity and an attention to detail that fosters a strong analytical competence.
  • Drive for personal and professional development.
  • Self-starter, self-motivated and an ability to work independently and under pressure to manage conflicting priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Confident in engaging with varied levels of Stakeholders and conveying their ideas, but also understanding your counterpart’s position.
  • Ability to effectively work within a team and collaborate to ensure the collective achieves its goals
  • Ability to build strong relationships with financial and operational (non-financial) colleagues.
  • Persistence and drive to get the job done.
  • Flexible approach to working and a willingness to adapt to the business’ demands.
