As a Finance Analyst, you will be supporting effective financial control across the McLaren Automotive Group, including assisting in the training of a Finance Graduate colleague. You will be primarily responsible for:
- Contributing to the correct keeping of accounting records for McLaren Automotive, ensuring accuracy of postings made by yourself, and also monitoring the accuracy of postings made by non-Control colleagues across the Finance Department.
- Taking responsibility for key repeating tasks and analysis, requiring diligent adherence to existing processes alongside identifying opportunities to optimise and simplify those processes where possible.
- Implementing financial controls, processes and systems to support a robust and fit-for-purpose control environment.
- Collecting or extracting, and then refining financial data in order to feed essential business analysis to ultimately inform decisions at Executive Committee level.
- Key contributor to the monthly financial close process, taking on repeating tasks such as detailed journals and routines, covering a broad range of inputs and outputs to be delivered on a pressured timeline.
- Understand and manage interdependencies within the processes for which ownership is taken, in order to resolve problems and ensure minimal rework and corrections are necessary.
- Operate as an effective component of the Core Control team, fluidly communicating with other team members to call in assistance where required, and to offer assistance and swing capacity over to other tasks when possible.
- Analyse specific Profit and Loss general ledger accounts, in order to assist management in highlighting anomalies, postings or balances of concern.
- Perform reconciliations for given groups of Balance Sheet accounts, providing outputs for review my management colleagues.
- Provide listings to support general ledger account balances to auditors, and liaise with audit team members to provide supporting evidence for transactions and balances, or to facilitate the provision thereof from other teams within the Finance department.
- Support colleagues within business partnering teams (UK and international) by solving problems with systems and accounting as they arise, and calling upon assistance from other teams as appropriate (such as IT colleagues).
- Provide supportive camaraderie to the Finance Graduate – Control, in order to help them to get up to speed with life in a professional finance environment, and train them in some of their day-to-day tasks (such as posting journals etc).
- Input to the design of financial and data processes in the interest of strengthening and optimising our control environment, ultimately in order to enhance the integrity of our financial data.
- Trainee accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
- Desire to gain experience in a Financial Control environment, with a clear appreciation of how this might contribute to a solid grounding in accountancy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively, understanding other perspectives, proposing solutions and highlighting limitations as appropriate.
- A desire to understand the process of external audit, and willingness to engage proactively and collaboratively where appropriate, with representatives of the Company’s auditors.
- Reasonable base proficiency with Microsoft Excel, with a desire to build out those skills and also to develop capability with Power BI and Powerpoint
- An enthusiasm for analysis and for transforming data into information which can then be taken forwards to provide insight.
- A continuous improvement approach to work, and an instinct for optimising processes where possible.
