What to Expect
The Enterprise Cloud Lead will be responsible for the strategic oversight, operational excellence and continuous improvement of McLaren’s enterprise cloud estate. This includes the corporate Azure cloud, AWS vehicle cloud, and AWS development cloud. The role will ensure seamless integration, security, scalability, and performance across all cloud platforms, supporting McLaren’s digital transformation and business growth objectives
What You'll Do
− Define the hybrid cloud & compute strategy, reference 
architectures and roadmaps covering Azure, AWS and onprem 
estates; ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and product 
roadmaps.
− Maintain standards, patterns and golden paths for landing zones, 
identity, networking, data protection and observability, chair 
architecture reviews for platform changes.
Engineering & Operations (Run/Grow)
− Lead engineering for Windows & UNIX server estates (build, patch, 
hardening, config drift control), virtualisation, and enterprise 
storage/backup/DR; drive automation (IaC, pipelines) and resilience 
testing.
− Own core Azure/AWS services (landing zones, IAM, 
policy/blueprints, container and serverless platforms) including 
capacity, performance and cost optimisation.
− Establish SREstyle practices (SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, telemetry), 
improving reliability and time to restore.
Security, Compliance & Governance
− Embed policy as code and controls consistent with MBP.01.020 –
Cloud Governance Policy (shared responsibility, guardrails, 
resource/cost governance, security baselines).
− Partner with Cyber on vulnerability remediation, privileged access, 
encryption, backup immutability and incident response integration.

Financials & Supplier/Vendor Management
− Manage Opex/Capex for cloud and onprem platforms; track unit 
economics (cost per workload, cost per TB, cost per environment) 
and drive optimisation with providers and partners in line with Head 
of Cloud Services frameworks.
People Leadership & Ways of Working
− Foster a DevOps/IaC culture with reusable modules, peer reviews 
and community of practice across cloud and compute teams.
Stakeholder Engagement
− Engage Product, Digital/R&D and Enterprise IT leaders to plan 
migrations, modernisation and platform features; provide executive
level reporting on risk, reliability and cost.
What You'll Bring
Hybrid leadership: 
- Proven ownership of enterprise Azure/AWS platforms and onprem Windows & 
UNIX estates incl. storage/backup in mission critical environments.
− Architecture & IaC: Strong with Azure/AWS reference architectures, identity/landing zones, VMs/containers/serverless, and IaC tooling (Terraform/ARM/Bicep).
− Operations: Patch/vulnerability mgt, config mgt, performance/capacity planning; hypervisor/virtualisation; SAN/NAS; backup/restore; DR design and testing.
− Governance & FinOps: Policy frameworks and Cloud Governance Policy adherence; cloud cost management (reservations, savings plans), chargeback/showback.
− Security: Identity/privileged access, encryption, key management, network segmentation, security monitoring integrations.
− Leadership: Building high performing engineering teams; vendor management and contract performance; excellent written/oral communication
