This role supports the delivery of Functional Safety activities across current and future McLaren road cars, helping to ensure systems are developed in line with ISO 26262 and wider industry best practice.

Working as part of the Functional Safety team, the role contributes to safety analyses, requirements development, traceability, and verification activities across a range of vehicle systems. The position is suited to an engineer who has already built a solid grounding in Functional Safety and is ready to take ownership of defined activities within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary automotive environment.

What You'll Do
Functional Safety Delivery Support and contribute to the completion of Functional Safety activities across assigned systems, including item definition, hazard analysis and risk assessment, functional safety requirements, and system or vehicle-level verification work. The successful candidate will be expected to lead a particular system domain, supported by leadership.
Safety Analysis & Documentation Produce and maintain core safety work products such as HARA, FMEA, FTA and related documentation, ensuring outputs are accurate, clear, and aligned with programme needs.
Requirements & Traceability Develop, review and manage safety requirements, and maintain traceability across requirements, architecture, and verification artefacts within approved toolsets.
Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with systems, software, hardware, validation and supplier teams to support the integration of Functional Safety into the wider engineering delivery process.
Process & Standards Compliance Contribute to compliance with ISO 26262, and where relevant ISO 21448, by applying established methods, templates and review processes, while supporting the maintenance of safety process documentation.
Technical Development Continue building depth in Functional Safety, automotive systems and safety analysis methods, while applying this knowledge effectively in day-to-day engineering delivery.

What You'll Bring
• Degree-qualified with 2:1 or above in electrical, electronics, software, systems or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Practical understanding of Functional Safety principles and standards, particularly ISO 26262, with the ability to apply them within automotive product development.
• Working knowledge of systems engineering processes, requirements management and the V-model development lifecycle.
• Experience contributing to safety analysis activities such as HARA, FMEA and FTA, and supporting the development of associated work products.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured and logical approach to engineering tasks, technical reviews and documentation.
• Understanding of automotive electrical/electronic systems, communication networks such as CAN, LIN or Ethernet, or related embedded systems.
• Experience using requirements or issue-tracking tools such as DOORS, Jama or Jira within an engineering delivery environment
