Purpose of Role

To join McLaren Automotive EDS team to support all vehicle electrical systems, prototype harness manufacture and launch phase build support.

Working as the part of a small team reporting to the EDS Manager. You will be required to manage critical rework tasks and test activities throughout each program phase and provide continuous feedback to the team.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Responsible for electrical vehicle diagnostic support for ES&C.
  • EDS Development support, rigs, jigs, and fixtures including the creation of prototype harnesses.
  • Represent the “EDS” department within the project team. Present concerns and milestone achievements.
  • Program launch - engineering and manufacturing support.
  • Support DVP vehicle testing
  • Support UK and overseas vehicle and component testing.
  • Shop floor fault finding and issue resolution.
  • Aftersales technician support
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Experience within the automotive industry or similar domain experience
  • Electronics/Electrical/EDS rework awareness within automotive sector or similar tech-based company
  • Automotive EDS knowledge and experience for complete wire harness design process
  • Familiar with wire harness rework and supporting development phases.
  • A minimum of 3 years in a similar technical environment, ideally motorsport / automotive
  • Apprenticeship time served and/or BTEC National Electrical Engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to read design drawings and create Bills of materials for Prototype and First builds.
  • Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams/schematics.
  • Flexible working to allow tight deadlines to be achieved.
  • Experience in building complex prototype Wiring Harnesses
  • Familiar with automotive recognised electrical diagnostic tools
  • Experience with Microsoft products such as excel, word and PowerPoint.
  • Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to guide future production builds.
  • Consulting with Internal departments to ensure integration of wiring harness and electrical systems into vehicles, defining harness routings with EDS best practice to ensure safe and robust installation.
  • Coordination with other departments to ensure alignment with the build requirements/specification.
  • Familiar with automotive connectors depinning and wire crimping
