What to Expect

Execute durability testing activities to support the validation of vehicle and component performance, ensuring high-quality test execution, accurate technical reporting, and efficient programme delivery. The role combines hands-on test engineering, data analysis, issue investigation, and collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams to support successful durability sign-off activities.

Reporting to the Senior Durability Test Engineer and the Durability Manager, the Durability Test Engineer will be based at the McLaren testing facility within the IDIADA proving ground in Spain.
The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Durability Team, supporting the planning, preparation, execution, monitoring, analysis and reporting of system and vehicle-level durability validation testing activities.

What You'll Do
Test Planning & Execution
• Support the planning and preparation of durability test activities, including control plans and consumables/spares planning.
• Execute durability test programmes in accordance with approved test plans, engineering requirements, and safety procedures.
• Provide engineering support during testing activities to maintain efficient programme execution.
• Monitor test progress against plan and communicate risks, issues, or delays to the Senior Durability Test Engineer and Durability Manager.
• Assist with implementing contingency plans when deviations from the test plan occur.
• Support the delivery of component, system and vehicle durability test plans used to support durability sign-off activities.

Data Analysis & Vehicle Assessment
• Monitor vehicle and component attribute degradation through: 
o Analysis and comparison of objective and subjective control plan results.
o Processing and evaluation of feedback from durability drivers.
o Analysis of acquired vehicle and test data.
• Execute planned objective and subjective inspections and checks.
• Track tested components and accumulated fatigue using internal durability tracking tools.
• Support investigation of durability concerns through data analysis and vehicle assessment activities.
• Assist in identifying trends, patterns, and potential failure mechanisms during testing.

Issue Investigation & Reporting
• Conduct timely first-level diagnosis of durability issues and failures.
• Create accurate and structured issue reports using McLaren reporting systems and processes.
• Escalate significant technical concerns and risks appropriately.
• Produce high-quality technical documentation including: 
o Daily test status updates
o Vehicle performance and degradation reports
o Test activity summaries
o Final test reports and supporting documentation
• Support the timely creation and maintenance of issue reports (QNs/QCRs).

Test Efficiency & Continuous Improvement
• Contribute to efficient test execution by helping minimise vehicle downtime and test programme delays.
• Support continuous improvement activities aimed at enhancing test quality, data quality, efficiency and reliability.
• Follow established durability testing standards, methodologies and best practices.
• Ensure testing activities comply with internal procedures, safety requirements and asset care expectations.
• Share lessons learned and contribute to the development of improved working practices.

Product Development Support
• Work closely with Vehicle Engineering, Design, CAE, Quality and Test Operations teams to support development programmes.
• Provide durability testing feedback to support component and vehicle development activities.
• Contribute durability test findings and observations to support future programme requirements and CAE correlation activities.
• Support the capture and retention of durability knowledge within the team.

What You'll Bring
• Degree in Automotive, Mechanical, or a related Engineering discipline (preferred).
• Experience within an automotive test and development environment is required.
• Good understanding of vehicle systems and their operation.
• Experience in one or more of the following is desirable: 
o Low-volume, high-performance vehicle programmes
o Whole-vehicle development programmes from concept through series production
o Vehicle data acquisition, testing and analysis techniques
• Ability to apply technical engineering knowledge to: 
o Understand vehicle technologies and systems
o Support engineering development and validation activities
o Investigate and help resolve engineering issues
• Substantial knowledge and experience of a broad range of vehicle and rig data acquisition, test and analysis techniques. Some examples of testing software are ETAS INCA & MDA; Vector CANape, Logger Configuration and CANalyser. 
• Experience on complex AUTOSAR based networks test and validation
• Experience on hybrid platforms testing and development is a benefit 
• Understanding of big data analysis and reporting principles. 
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
