Purpose of Role

To perform analyses relating to the duty cycles of vehicle components and the definition of the durability tests in order to support high performance road car test programmes.

 

Principal Accountabilities
  • Definition, calculation, and periodical revision of durability duty cycles: 
    • Project level durability targets (project reference duty cycles: mileage, Manoeuvres Environmental conditions)
    • Full vehicle durability tests
    • Function group/system/component focused vehicle tests
    • Component / system duty cycles and load spectra, to define durability specs and for structural design purposes

o   Drive files /duty cycles for component/system rig testing, in correlation with the real in-vehicle working conditions and the full vehicle fatigue targets. 

  • Definition and calculation of durability coefficients to be used to evaluate the fatigue / damage of the vehicle components caused by the main relevant fatigue factors. 
  • Calculation of the fatigue accumulated by the components during the durability tests 
  • Set-up and execution of vehicle / systems simulations to define and calculate durability duty cycles 
  • Customer data analysis (mileage, failures in service, etc.)
  • Periodical revision of the durability test cycles up to the target in function of any actual deviation from the original plan.
  • Durability analysis based on the data acquired during the durability testing, related to consumable items (brakes wear, fuel and fluids consumption, tyre wear, etc.) and to the degradation of objective and subjective attributes of the vehicle.
  • Issue analysis on systems/components across the projects
  • Interaction with the vehicle Function Groups for durability issues root cause analysis and countermeasures definition/validation
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • A general knowledge in Automotive systems is required
  • Must be able to apply knowledge of statistics, reliability and durability theories.
  • Must have excellent analytical skills, with experience in applying a range of data analysis techniques
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python or other programming languages are required
  • Experience with data analysis software, including N-Code, is an advantage
  • Experience with the set-up and running of simulations is required.
  • Familiarity with automotive data acquisition systems and diagnostic tools is an advantage
  • Must be proficient with the use of all common Microsoft Office applications
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
