Purpose of Role

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the aftersales diagnostic team, responsible for developing and maintaining the diagnostic platform (McLaren Diagnostic System) used in McLaren Retailers.

What to expect:

  • Working as part of a small team, you will develop and test new diagnostic content before committing the code for global release. 
  • You will also be expected to work with engineering and technical support teams to assist with the investigation and resolution of vehicle faults.
  • You will have a high degree of ownership and accountability for your work and will be expected to work on multiple projects in parallel.    
Principal Accountabilities
  • Author content for guided diagnostics using the Grade X Integrated Development Environment (IDE)
  • Author diagnostic documentation
  • Use Softing Venice and Vector CANdela Studio software tools to author, update and check ODX databases.
  • Perform validation of ODX data using a mix of simulation, test rigs, pre-production and production specification vehicles
  • Develop and maintain simulation environments designed to support the validation of new diagnostic content.
  • Validate diagnostic software releases against design specifications and report any nonconformities or bugs.
  • Work with systems engineers and systems suppliers to develop guided diagnostic procedures.
  • Enhance the functionality of the diagnostic system by designing, developing, and validating new runtime features.
  • Support the team to perform software regression testing.
  • Liaise with our service partner staff, other McLaren Automotive departments, and suppliers, as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree, or equivalent. 5+ years’ experience in the automotive diagnostics sector would be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
  • Experience in PC based vehicle diagnostic systems or similar applications
  • Previous experience with vehicle diagnostics, including the reprogramming and calibration of ECUs.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Visio)
  • Understanding of Extensible Mark-up Language (XML)
  • Functional knowledge of automotive communication protocols such as CAN, DoIP, and LIN
  • Strong understanding of industry-standard diagnostic documentation/tools (ODX, CDD PDX, etc.)
  • Experience in diagnostic protocols such as ISO 14229, ISO 15765, ISO 14230
  • Basic understanding of software programming languages
  • Experience with software scripting tools
  • Conversant with Softing (Monaco & Venice), Vector applications, or similar
  • Experience authoring OTX content using the Grade-X IDE
  • Familiar with project/issue tracking software tools such as Jira and Mantis
