Purpose of Role

To own the end to end delivery of development test activities within McLaren Automotive Motorsport.  Managing a team of people as well as priorities, budget, stakeholders, engineers and travel providers to ensure a seamless service is delivered with the highest standards of outcomes and wellbeing for those involved. 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Driving best practices in development testing, technical leadership and management of events
  • Own the planning, logistics and successful execution of development tests and associated events working with your team to ensure the best plans are made.
  • Validate test plans with Test Engineers and the Chief Engineer to ensure that the plans are deliverable and well structured
  • Ready to reschedule, deviate and course correct plans with short notice due to environmental, travel and people constraints.
  • Responsible for the management of all aspects of race car preparation and safety for McLaren development events and other associated events
  • Chair pre-event and post-event briefing meetings and drive outcomes to all major stakeholders
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to development designs
  • Lead the Development Technician team at every event to ensure tests are completed to the highest standard and outcomes are properly documented
  • Hold stakeholders to account such as forwarding agents, customs officials and track officials to ensure vehicles and freight logistics are effective and efficient
  • Ensure that the welfare of all technical staff is protected to the highest level and they are always equipped with the correct clothing, equipment and knowledge to do their jobs safely.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • High level of technical experience within top level international motorsport
  • Logistics operator with at least 5 years experience in short sea, deep sea and air freight movements
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Adopts a creative & thoughtful approach to solving problems with good attention to detail and an engaging mind
  • Able to make decisions at short notice to ensure smooth delivery of plans
  • Strong knowledge of motorsport GT programmes
  • Strong computer skills in MS office, SAP and Egencia suites
