Purpose of Role

The Design Engineer role will be responsible for the design and release of components on a variety of vehicle platforms. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, working on all aspects of vehicle delivery on our current and future motorsport vehicle programmes.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Design ownership from conceptual phase through to track sign off
  • Creation of jig and tooling designs in collaboration with end users
  • Verification of designs through own calculations, analysis and CAE
  • BoM creation and structuring within engineering systems
  • Work closely with Project Engineers to fulfil technical, commercial and timing targets (DFM etc..)
  • Liaison with Development and Performance Engineers to understand system performance and development direction (DVP sign off)
  • Liaison with suppliers, Manufacturing, Engineering and Purchasing teams
  • Technical design support for car build (prototype and production)
  • Represent the department in design reviews and during test and development activities if required
  • Co-ordinate design work to deliver timely design releases meeting all design for manufacture input from suppliers
  • Fault diagnosis and resolution in collaboration with the wider Engineering Team
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Motorsport design 3D model design and assembly experience
  • Strong knowledge of 3D CAD, preferably CATIA V5
  • Experience of manufacturing drawing creation and strong knowledge of tolerancing, limits and fits
  • Degree in Mechanical / Automotive / Aeronautical engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of the latest manufacturing techniques and materials
  • Understanding of GT series race car mechanical systems and layout
  • Understanding of typical design methodologies and manufacturing techniques used on GT cars
