Purpose of Role

To work as part of the McLaren Automotive Development Team currently based at Applus Idiada Proving Ground, Spain. The role encompasses leading the Instrumentation department based at Idiada, working closely with the Instrumentation Technician, and delivering the data results of the required vehicle testing.

Principal Accountabilities

·   Responsible for the specification, integration and configuration of additional instrumentation on prototype & development vehicles based in Idiada

·   Maintenance of accurate instrumentation records of the Idiada based development vehicles

·   Maintenance of instrumentation equipment & calibration, including the updating of the instrumentation database

·   To carry out vehicle testing activities and the analysis of the collected data

·   To ensure test data safety (backup, synchronization, sharing etc), including software updates

·   To focus on efficient testing and instrumentation/data acquisition quality to ensure “Right First Time” approach

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  •    Must be able to demonstrate broad knowledge of current and future automotive technologies and processes.
  •     Able to demonstrate extensive experience of acquisition methods and technologies within the test and development environment
  •     Capability to develop and create tests on new technologies where no test standard currently exists.
  •     Be able to apply detailed technical knowledge to the understanding of new technologies, development of engineering designs and resolution of engineering problems.
  •     Good understanding of automotive electrical and electronic systems.
  •     Vehicle CAN & LIN networking, management and diagnostic knowledge is essential.
  •      Familiarity with automotive ethernet and/or diagnostic tools (eg: CANape, ETAS, Monaco) would be an advantage.
  •      Excellent English communication skills required, both verbal and written
