What to Expect

Working within McLaren Composite Technology Centre you will support the development of people and processes across the business; this role will encompass delivering appropriate training programmes to Production Operators and Technicians across the composites manufacturing processes. Reporting to the Production Manager, there will be an emphasis on adopting and championing perpetual skills development and verification activities that will underpin both the quality build of products and growth of our employees. 

As a Production Trainer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our production team operates efficiently and adheres to the highest quality standards. Your primary responsibility will be to train production operators and technicians, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their tasks effectively. You’ll work closely with new hires and existing team members, ensuring they understand and follow the standard work instructions.  

What You'll Do
  • Ensure that all employees receive consistent and comprehensive training. 
  • Conduct training sessions for production operators and technicians, covering various core aspects of the composites manufacturing process. 
  • Create, define, enhance and version control training material to align to current and future build models. 
  • Train employees on quality control measures, defect prevention (i.e. damage), continuous improvement and production efficiency. 
  • Provide new production operators with a comprehensive induction and support their journey on the production line through full probation period. 
  • Emphasise the importance of quality throughout the training process. 
  • Post training, ensure safety protocols, quality control procedures, and company policies are adhered too. 
  • Monitor trainees’ progress and provide constructive feedback. 
  • Document, track and feedback completed training across the landscape. 
  • Collaborate with productionmaintenance and engineering stakeholders to identify training needs and address any skill gaps. 
  • Support the development of detailed training plans that outline learning objectives, content, and assessment methods. 
  • Create step-by-step guides for specific tasks, incorporating visual aids and practical examples. 
  • Tailor training plans to different roles within the production team (i.e. Material Cutting, Laminating, Curing, Finishing, Inspection, Rework). 
  • Respond to business and quality related feedback to deliver targeted training (hot spot and care point training) 
  • Ensure delegate feedback mechanisms are in place at specific training gateways and evolve training when required. 

You will support the coordination of activities within the Production learning academy to deliver training modules on key process elements and manufacturing methodologies to include;  


Quality Training 

  • Skills Verification 
  • 4M / Practical Problem Solving / Lineside Systems 
  • Damage Prevention 
  • Non-Conformance 
  • Jigs, Fixtures & Tooling 

Technical 

  • Composites manufacturing processes either RTM, Prepreg, or Both 
  • Component finishing processes, Trimming, Inspection, Rework, Data Capturing 
  • Operation of manufacturing machines for operator level interactions 

Lean Manufacturing 

  • 5S, Process Standardisation, Visual Management 
  • 8 Wastes & Efficiencies 
What You'll Bring

The candidate will have extensive hands-on composites manufacturing experience and a wealth of technical expertise with either prepreg or dry fibre moulding technologies. Through the sharing of practical knowledge, learning is put into context to empower delegates to apply their new skills successfully in the workplace, leading to sustainable and repeatable results. 

  • Recognised Training/Teaching Qualification or suitable industry experience 
  • Previous experience in a production or manufacturing environment 
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail ensures that trainees understand and follow clear instructions 
  • Strong process control and adherence focus 
  • Understands different learning styles and can adapt training to support trainee success 
  • Strong presentation and communication skills 
  • Customer focus and understanding of product liability 
  • Change Management.
