What to Expect

We are recruiting for a Clay Modeller to join our fantastic Design Department in Woking. As a Clay Modeller at McLaren Automotive, you will be part of the team responsible for interpreting the design team’s vision and translating their 2D designs into 3D models for both exterior and interior. You will work closely with the wider design team of studio engineering, CAS and CMD to deliver resolved, impactful models to drive projects forward at reviews and gateway deliverables. Alongside this primary role, you will also be required to the utilise our in-house scanning, CNC machining and 3D printing equipment.

What You'll Do

  • Working closely with design and studio engineering to develop any given zone on exterior or interior model through sketch modelling, to deliver the design vision/strategy.
  • Producing high impact physical content for senior presentations and weekly design reviews.
  • Tebis accredited training (tool path generation and basic CAD skills).
  • Creaform scanning training.
  • Reconciling design intent, quality & manufacturing feasibility with aerodynamics, engineering, and commercial requirements.
  • Communicating progress and critical issues to the Functional Manager
  • Attending Design & CAS reviews as required and action next steps.
  • Supporting with cutter path programming for all model making activities.
  • Offering input into the creation and update of design standards & process.
  • Maintaining a tidy, organised workspace.
What You'll Bring

  • Education in a design preferred.  
  • Good verbal & written presentation skills.
  • Physical modelling and surface design skills.
  • Basic understanding of 3D scanning.
  • Basic understanding of CNC toolpath creation.
  • Basic understanding of ergonomics, aerodynamic principles & legal requirements.
  • PC literate. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
