Purpose of Role

McLaren Automotive is a commercially driven environment, with particular emphasis on supplier development and effective negotiation. You will be working with and leading a highly skilled and motivated team that is keen on developing best practice purchasing techniques and supply chains that support our vehicle development and manufacturing requirements.

Principal Accountabilities

You will be responsible for the effective sourcing and procurement of a range of Electronic component assemblies for all of McLaren’s vehicle platforms and future high performance road cars.

  • Reporting directly to the Head of Purchasing for Propulsion and ES&C
  • Full procurement responsibility for both pre-series development and series expenditure.
  • Managing a team of experienced Purchasing professionals. To deliver against aggressive targets for the Purchasing function to support organisational growth.
  • Primary accountability in the implementation and management of Supplier Contracts.
  • Lead complex negotiations and support the teams in the development of long-term strategies for multi-million £ investment projects.
  • Create an organisation where talent is supported in its development by training, and mentoring assignments.
  • Deliver best cost outcomes for the Vehicle Programmes, with on-going, clear, regular updates.
  • Coaching Buyers in the creation, development and execution of complex commodity Strategies to ensure adoption and exploitation of best-in-class Technologies and Suppliers.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Degree / MCIPS qualified.
  • Proven track record in sourcing vehicle energy storage systems and hybrid drive applications.
  • Ability to promote best practice purchasing techniques.
  • Leader of a high performing commercial team.
  • Proven commercial success / strong negotiator.
  • Previous manufacturing / automotive experience.
  • Proven supply chain experience in dealing with both high and low value organisations.
  • Excellent presentation skills with a proven ability to influence stakeholders up to Executive level, both internally and externally.
  • Can demonstrate awareness and/or application of a range of negotiation approaches, auction formats and their proper application to achieve best sourcing outcomes.
